Princess in waiting confused!!!
I went to the OB today and I am a little confused......
I have been diagnosed with POS for 16 years now. But, had a Sonogram done last week and my ovaries seem to be normal but with all the side effects I am having my OB says it is a Tumor in my Ovary!
She did not have but 3 mins. to talk to me because she had a delivery to get to really quick so I am waiting for her call - but I don't expect her to call tonight and I wanted some input....
Could this be a cancerious tumor?
Can POS change into this? She gave me the name - but of course I can't remember it now! lol I will get more info when she calls back!!
Please help!!!

Don't know about the tumor in the ovary, amy, but can tell you that even with PCOS the cysts can come and go...especially if you are taking glucophage/metformin. I had a really long 'pearl necklace' on one of my ovaries a few months prior to surgery and just before surgery, they had resolved and no cysts were visible on the scans. I have my 'real' post-op tomorrow where I'll get all my info (as opposed to the 2 emergency visits where only the emergency was addressed). I'm very interested in finding out if there were any cysts at the time of surgery.
Also, just because the cysts were 'gone', my symptoms didn't go totally go away. I couldn't tell a difference between cysts/no cysts towards the end.

Hi Amyjazz2000,
PCOS is not just an ovarian disease, it is an endocrine problem. Not all women have abnormal cysts in their ovaries, and sometimes the cysts come and go. A hysterectomy will not take care of all the problems of PCOS. I still have to work hard to control my high insulin with a low glycemic diet and exercise. Having my ovaries removed did lower my testosterone into the normal range.
It is always a good idea, and highly recommended that you get at least 2 second opinions before getting a hysterectomy (or any surgery). With PCOS, it is also a good idea for at least one of those opinions to come from a Dr who has had lots of experience treating PCOS.
I hope your Dr answers all your questions when she calls. Only she can tell you what she is thinking about the possible tumor in your ovary. Write down all your questions, and then write down her answers.
Keep us updated, I will watch for your next post after talking with her
s,
Kay
