LSH: Surgery on 11/30

Just saw a second Doctor on 11/23/11 and its been decided I need a hysterectomy. Been having issues for awhile now and just wanted my life back. Wasn't totally prepared for this and all the decisions. Decided on the LSH, with removing the ovaries and leaving the cervix. Now I'm second guessing everything and worrying if I made the right decisions.. Starting to wonder if maybe I should have decided to leave the ovaries?

You and your Dr. are the best ones to make that decision. I can only tell you that if there is no medical reason to remove them I personally would keep them. I did not have that option and wish I did. Discuss with your Dr. your option about your ovaries and see what he has to say, pro's vs. con's. Then base your decision on that. good luck.

You don't want to go into this surgery with doubts. Make another appointment with your doctor to discuss your ovaries. You will go into menopause if they are removed, so you would need to be prepared for that. If your ovaries are healthy you may wish to keep them.

If your ovaries are healthy, I would keep them. I intend on keeping mine as long as they look good along with my cervix. I am just getting rid of the major problem for me, the uterus. Goodbye to heavy bleedy and anemia, fibroids and back pain!! Have another discussion with your Dr. so you can feel confident in your decision. Good luck!!

I am going to talk to my doctor on Monday and tell him that as long as my ovaries look healthy to let them alone. I just wasn't prepared to have to deal with have a hysterectomy this soon. Have had ongoing issues for a long time now and went to my appointment and hysterctomy was the last option the doctor and I wanted to do. But after the exam and bloodwork it was decided I needed a hysterectomy asap. Which I'm okay with, I just didn't realize all it entailed. Made the decision to have ovaries removed because a woman I go to church with had a hysterectomy years ago and left her ovaries and is now looking at possible cancer on her ovaries.
