Swelly Belly with LSH and question?

I had my pre-op with my gyn last week and we decided to go with LSH. I wanted to keep my cervix, if possible. She will be checking my remaining ovary and cervix for endo and making the decision then. We decided to take them out if they look bad. Anyways, will I swell a lot with this type of surgery? Because of the endo, I think she will be making a total of 4 cuts. That may be normal, I don't know. Her plan is to get rid of it. I've had numerous laps, how different is this surgery, recovery wise? I go in July 3, and I'm counting down the days.

Thanks so much!
Missy

Swelly Belly with LSH and question?

Missy,
Hey I have had about 3 laps and then had LSH 6 weeks ago. The recovery is a little more involved then my laps were, but not by much.
I had 4 incisions. My Dr. likes to use 4 incisions so he has one instrument in each "hole". Less in and out, and takes less time and less "trauma" etc. I had a belly button incision one on lower left abdomen was about 1-2 inches long and two small incisions mid line and right side where a bikini incision wouild be. (he went through my old c-sect and laparotomy scar.) The pain was in between a regular lap and the open abdominal.
I really didn't have much swelly belly. I was in blue jeans the end of my first week. You do have some bloating/swelling, but not as much as I had with my section.
I was in and out of surgery very quickly. Surgery at 7:30AM, took 1 1/2 hours as they found more then expected, and I walked into my house at 12:50 PM. The ultimate "drive-by" hysterectomy!!!
I found I personally didn't hurt enough to take any pain meds. But that is me.
I absolutely loved being able to have this procedure, as the recovery is so much quicker.
If I can answer any more questions let me know. I'm always happy to help out the ladies in waiting!!!

Swelly Belly with LSH and question?

I have had 2 laps and a laparotomy prior to my LSH BSO
I would say it was somewhere in between the 2. My LSH took about 3 hours due to a lot of adhesions on the bowel. I went home about 10 oclock that night. I would say the pain was just a little more than the other laps but the recovery time was much longer due to the fatigue, but this was also my 3rd surgery in 4 months. My swelly belly could get pretty bad just this last few days it has been much better. We are all different and every surgery is different. Good luck with your up coming surgery.
