3 Ovarian BRENNER?? Tumors-Surgery Again--possible Hyst/Endo??

Hi.
I had thought I had BSO (Bilateral SalpingoOophrectomy) both ovaries removed June 2003. After all the migraines & pain for past year and 1/2 --- 3rd DOC finds 3TUMORS & half Ovary left. She sending me to an Oncologist Dec 20 - for another opinion - she tells me surgery for 3tumors&ovary is a MUST & possible full HYST. Also if she or Oncologist does surgery they will have to MARK MY URETER with a STINT as the HRT I been on all this time has AGGRAVATED the ENDO I had since 1994 and made it IMPOSSIBLE to see the tumors from VITAL organs. She wants Oncologist to DECIDE if SHE or HE does the surgery. She says since my right side was a verified BRENNER TUMOR in 2003 they suspect same kind on LEFT. *ALSO the 2003 report does not say if that first Brenner Tumor on Right was REALLY benign (I only thought so cuz first Doc told me that) **I am frightened and confused over another SURGERY a year later. Last one was a LAPORATOMY and took me this far to start recovering. **Has anyone heard of BRENNER tumors? This New Doc said she is glad the First One never saw the other half of ovary&tumors in 2003 --she implied that the first Doc might have cut my ureter. Also I am scared about all that stint stuff and putting tube up my bladder and all.... ouch... oh my... ***I am ready to say JUST LEAVE ME BE with my TUMORS - messed me up enough... I don't want ANYMORE slicing dicing or HRT. I am so MAD at that first Doctor - plus she told me all this pain was in MY HEAD and wanted me on antidepressents. MAKES me SICK. Anyone have helpful info please let me know. I am ready to DUMP all DOCTORS and just live with TUMORS. Am too afraid to go THRU this SURGICAL HELL and HORMONE STRIFE again. Feel like I am tied in knots. *Also trying to use this present 2week vacation from Work to resolve this. ??? cat out.

Hi Cat I'm sorry to hear you're facing another surgery. It sounds like your current DR is doing all the right things though, to ensure your future good health. I'm glad she's involving an oncologist, too. Not because they treat cancer, but because their experience makes them especially skilled at difficult surgeries where there may be multiple issues to watch out for.

Most (something like 98-99%) of Brenner tumors are benign. Your pathology report from your previous surgery should say whether that one was benign or not. If it doesn't, it's possible that the lab at that hospital still has the tissue sample and your current DR could order a new pathology evaluation. I had that done on breast tissue after a lumpectomy when I consulted with a DR at a different hospital and she wanted the pathologists she was used to working with to look at it.

Brenner tumors can produce hormones just like 'regular' ovaries can. Perhaps that is what has been messing up your attempts to get balanced on your HRT's.

Here are some links with more information about Brenner tumors:

Brenner tumor of the ovary

Left ovarian Brenner tumor: clinical case

Virilizing Brenner tumor of the ovary: case report

A case of estrogen-producing Brenner tumor with a stromal component as a potential source of estrogen

Good luck with your oncologist appointment tomorrow... let us know what happens, OK?
s,
-Linda

Thanks SurferBabe

SurferBabe,
thanks for the replies and info You have given us some light on this subject of the problems with balancing of HRT levels too considering now that we (Hubby & I ) never knew Brenner tumors put out hormones like ovaries. All make sence now. Do you know if Brenner tumors are only in Endometriosis cases?
**I will keep you posted as to what the Oncologist has to say tomorrow. I am still a bit scared, but your info makes me feel a bit better - thank you so much. *I can tell by your picture you love cats too. GOD Bless you SurferBabe. I know I have to just be strong in faith also.................cuz GOD is bigger than this Goliath in my life right now. ** Thanks for links I going to look them up right after I send this msg off to you. I will keep you posted after tomorrows consultation. I just hope I do not have to stew too much more before I get this resolved. I am not on any HRT now. actually feel better somewhat also.
Thanks again, Cat (with 2 cats at home that don't leave my side right now).
