Vaginal Hys & Lapo Abdominal Adhesional Removal
When first joined the site last week I was an emotional wreck, stressed out, and felt all alone. My surgery is a week away (next Friday) and because of the support and the words from you all, I have come to terms with my emotional, mental, and physical concerns (having my cycle right now really helps, I'm in so much pain).
I'm still very nervous. I am having a vaginal hyster and lapo abdominal adhesion removal. I don't know what to expect, haven't heard too many women that have had the same surgery. Really worried about the pain post-op

Re: Vaginal Hys & Lapo Abdominal Adhesional Removal
I had an LAVH for very large fibroids but not with adhesion removal. My surgery ended up being twice as long because the fibroids were much larger than we thought. Even with that, the post-op pain has been minimal. I was off pain meds by day 4 and used a cold compress after that. I can't even tell that I have a vaginal cuff, no bleeding, no pain from it, nothing. I am 3 weeks out and feel like I had nothing done-I feel completely normal, the only difference is that I have tons more storage space from where the tampons and pads used to be! Best wishes to you and God bless!

Re: Vaginal Hys & Lapo Abdominal Adhesional Removal
Being on the other end of the surgery helps with perspective. I had mine just over three years ago.
I had a laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hyst. They found endometriosis with adhesions while in the middle of my belly! And yes, I had my cycle just before surgery (Yargh!!!!!)
You will come out of surgery with several little "pokey-holes" including one in your belly-button. You will also have some bloody drainage from your vagina, mostly because that is where the incision is. Your doctor should be able to explain to you how much drainage, and what color to expect.
I was particularly blessed, despite the adhesions, I went home that night, slept in my own bed next to my husband, and caught up on movies and TV programs I'd been behind on (thank heaven for Netflix!). Yes, I did have pain, but I took the pain pills when the pain got to a 3-4 on my own personal 0-10 scale. You should be taught that scale, and the nice thing is, it is your OWN perceptions, not any body else's.
I took pain pills off and on for 4 weeks, including during a camping trip at the end of week 2. It took me a while, but I learned to recognize my pain as a feeling of "don't touch my belly!" Took a pain pill, and felt better and more functional. I was able to go back to work at the end of 8 weeks. Probably could have done 6 weeks, but I got food poisoning, and was sick as a dog for a week!
I'm sure you will be fine, and we are here to cheer you on.
