Fibroids, degenerative disks and nerve impingement

Hi everyone,

I recently have been told I have a 7cm fibroid and multiple others. I have been on treatment for lumbar and cervical pain for the last 6 months. Had an epideral steroid shot in the lumbar and that helped the sciatica but still have pain like period back cramps and alot of pain in legs.Coincedently I started my period the day after and after 30 days of bleeding finally went to gyno and was sonogrammed and told about fibroids. A lot of pelvic symptoms are making sense now. Gyno said it's up to me to have uterus removed. Doesn't say if my degenerated disk and nerve impingement are a result of fibroids. Very hard and frustrating to make decisions. Any advice or similar problems on this would be appreciated.

Re: Fibroids, degenerative disks and nerve impingement

Every case is different and there is no way to really know what will feel better besides a few obvious things. If the bleeding stops being so heavy you will stop being anemic.

It is possible that your fibroids are causing more pain in your back and legs. Before surgery my back was killing me and I was getting a lot of leg pain. That is gone now. It's not that my fibroids were that big but it turned out I had adheasions and adenomyosis. It is also possible that it isn't causing the problem.

I would focus on the dealing with your problems according to what your drs. recommend. If you choose a hyster and it helps your other problems great. Obviously, having a 30 day period is not good or normal and that needs to be dealt with regardless.

Good luck and keep asking any questions. A hyst is a big decision and I would get a second opinion to see if you have other option. If the fibroids can be removed without a hyst that might still help your back problems.

I have cervical fibroids and abnormal bleeding. I was bleeding for almost 3 months and i'm scheduled to have a partial hysterectomy. Mine are so bad everytime I have sex I bleed for weeks. I know how you feel and I'm sure you will make the decision thats best for you.
