Job with alot of lifting.....concerns
Does anyone know what lifting restrictions you have after and for how long? My job requires lifting up to 70lbs., pushing, pulling, bending, carrying equip. continuiously 20lbs. or more and walking on a concrete floor all day. My job will not let me return until full release(no light duty), I have great benefits and pay for being off, I'm just afraid of being gone so long. I'm in a lead position and afraid of what I'd come back too.(cleaning up the messes, I guess a bit of a control freak and thinking if I'm not there to do it all it won't get done right) And that also leads to my apprehension of being laid up for so long, I also have a large family and home to take care of, how does anyone one do it without going nuts? This place is great I've already found alot of good advice, thanks to all for that!!!!!

Job with alot of lifting.....concerns
For six weeks my gyn would not even let me lift a pot or pan to cook with. I went for my checkup today (7 wks.) and she told me today that I should not lift over 10 pounds for quite some time. I think every doctor is different. She told me that even though I'm healed on the outside, the inside is not and if you lift something heavy you can get hernias that would require further surgery. I had a SAH/BSO, ovarian tumor, firbroids, scar tissue and adhesions. Surgery turned out to be quite extensive. It is important to listen to your body and doctor.

Make sure that your Dr. okays your lifting. Lifting is a bad thing...trust me.
I work in the wine biz and a case of wine is 50 pounds. I have been known to lift 10-50 of them a day. I didn't touch one for over three months.
You are fortunate to be able to receive a paycheck while off....take it easy and make sure that you are ready to go back before you do.
I am on 100% commission....for me...I had to get back at it right away. Fortunately, I was able to do that from bed with my cell phone for the second week (my daughter actually visited my accounts the week of surgery) and I worked from home with my cell for the next 4 weeks.
Truly, make sure that your Dr. knows what you do on a daily basis and get his/her okay to go back.
Just remember, you have one chance to heal properly.

Job with alot of lifting.....concerns
I had a TVH and was restricted from lifting no more than 5 pounds for the first 6 weeks of my recovery. I also wasn't allowed to bend, push or pull anything among the usual restrictions of no vacuuming, no baths, nothing in vagina, and no driving (for 3 weeks for me).
At my 6 week post-op appointment I was released to begin easing back into my normal routine. Since I have a pre-existing back problem, I don't do a lot of lifting now anyway.
The best person to ask is your doctor. He/she will have specific instructions for your recovery based on your own situation. We are all very different in the restrictions we have.

Job with alot of lifting.....concerns
Thank you ladies, I'm just really stressing. I know I need to get it done. I've been putting it off for 2 years now and things are only getting worse. Did anyone's hormones start to get worse as their symptoms got worse? My hormones have been aweful for the past year and seem to only worsen, my husband hopes that the hysterectomy will help but I'm not too sure it will help and I pray it dosen't worsen. Any experiences with this?
I love this site, thanks!!!!

lifting
My Dr. told me not to lift over 10 to 15 lbs for the rest of my life, which is nearly impossible. He told me no coughing, lifting, constipation or weight gain for life!

Job with alot of lifting.....concerns
I have the very same concern. I cannot afford to be off work for an extended period time and have a very physically demanding job. I am a dog groomer and more than 80% of my clientle weigh over 80 pounds. That is what I specialize in, large aggressive dogs. Lucky me, huh?...lol. But hey they need groomed too, right?
I am planning on just taking it as it comes to me. I had laproscopy in February to "clean up some scar tissue" whatever that did..NOTHING. And was back to work in about 2 weeks. I am sure the girls I worked with got tired of helping me all the time.
I am not sure this helps any. My doctor told me I am looking around 3 maybe 4 weeks. I am in shape and otherwise very healthy so that will help.

Job with alot of lifting.....concerns
I work in the auto industry (plastic injection molding); I have to be able to lift 55lbs, bending, walking on a concrete floor also. I went back at the end of the 7th week because of the financial situation. I hurt so bad that first day. It was worse then when I woke up out of surgery.
I'm going to say that it took me a good month to be back to what I was before I went off on sick leave. My surgeon said I was about 80% healed and I had to convince him that I need to go back because of money problemswith no restrictions. He wanted me off another 2 weeks.

Job with alot of lifting.....concerns
I work in a physically demanding field also. I am going to ask for the full amount of time off and come back early if I can. (12 weeks)That way my work has an idea of how long I may possibly be gone. I also have to have a 100% release to come back to work. My disability insurance should be about the same as my paycheck from what I understand. I do not want to hurt myself worse and take longer to heal with complications. Go as easy as possible is what I am hearing.

Job with alot of lifting.....concerns
Thanks for all the input, I have my Dr.s visit tonight so I hope I'll find out more then. I have good disability insurance and can afford to take the time off its just that I'm also in charge and you know the saying, "when the cats away, the mice will play". And I'm afraid when I get back I'll be doing clean-up for a month and alot of times that means moving skids with pallet jack and doing alot of lifting to organize and shift stuff around(over doing it) I just don't want to end up really hurting myself...................I guess I'm too stubborn sometimes, but I really can't afford to do that this time. Scared!!!
