SAH Recovery and other ???
Having a SAH on the 19th.VERY excited to have the procedure.
Does anyone know if the recovery is a little easier than a TAH?
Also are the odds greater that I will have some evidence of a
period?Pending no surprises the only thing coming out is my uterus. Thanks (again) for any info.

SAH Recovery and other ???
Lynns, we won't be twins by date but will be by procedure. I'm having the same thing done on Oct. 1. And actually I have the same questions. I heard that you can have a mini-period if you keep your cervix. I for one am not looking forward to that; I've had enough problems with spotting. I'm going to ask my DR at the pre-op visit what the pros and cons are of keeping the cervix. Sisters, your information would be appreciated!! Thanks.

Not exactly sure what a sah is but...
Hi ladies,
Just wanted to let you know that I had a choice of keeping my cervix or leting it go...my doc and I had at on point thought to keep it and then at my pre-op my doc said he thought it would be a good Idea to just go ahead and take it.
The pros accordding to him were it might help my sex drive...
the cons were: chance of endo coming back, cerivcal cancer later on, yearly paps continue, and yes mini periods, but the choice was mine... I said take it out... My sex drive has always been real good and accorrding to a lot of ladies post op they say they feel even better having sex and see no diff, I am 13 days post and I can honestly say that even though I still hurt I am looking very forward to being with dbf again... I do still have a libido..lol...
It's really rather strange I can hurt and still feel like I want to do it..
so talk to your docs and make your decision from there.. I think I'll be glad I let go of mine..

SAH Recovery and other ???
I also am having the SAH and my doctor recommended it mainly for internal support of other organs. He told me it would also help not in sex drive but in pleasurable feelings during sex. However, that was not the main reason for the recommendation-the idea of having extra support for my bladder, etc. as I get older seems pretty logical to me. He said the only drawback would be the yearly pap smear which is no big deal after all this other stuff.
Unless something changes my decision will be the same. I don't want to take anything out that I don't have to!

SAH Recovery and other ???
Thanks for your reply my doctor gave me word for word the same response as your doctor. I agree about not having anything taken out that doesn't need to be. Just mainly curious about still having a period-light though it might be.Did your doctor say anything about that to you??
Thanks,
Lynn

SAH Recovery and other ???
Since you didn't get an answer about recovery length for a SAH, I'll address this first. Recovery from Abdominal Hysterectomy is 6 to 8 weeks. Even when it is a supracervical surgery. You're still having all the same internal stitches as the TAH ladies are having.
Regarding the possibility of having some light bleeding, if you retain your ovaries and your cervix, there is a possibility of light bleeding.

SAH Recovery and other ???
Lynn:
No my doctor did not mention the possibility of any sort of mini-periods after the procedure and I didn't know to ask until I started reading about it on this website. I have it on my list of questions to ask in my pre-op consultation on 24 Sept. I have heard conflicting stories from other women so I will get the straight scoop from the doctor. I don't think it will change my decision however as the support issue seems really important to me.
