bleeding 3 weeks post op

I am 3 weeks post op today and for the past few days I have been bleeding heavier than before. I don't feel as though I have been over doing things and since the bleeding I have been resting completely.

it's not heavy, still like a light period, but red now, not pink. Also my tummy is quite sore. Is this normal? I do feel much better today, but still bleeding.

Thanks ladies and 's to all!

bleeding 3 weeks post op

I have been bleeding (changing a maxi pad at least 4 - 5 times per day) since day 11, and it was bright red. At my 2 week checkup he removed a clot and said that should help. At my 4 week checkup he found an infection and put me on antibiotics. I am now at almost 6 weeks and have a checkup on Tuesday. I finally stopped needing maxi pads and was able to change to a panty liner 2 days ago. Yeehaw! I was really tired of buying maxi pads. I know we are all different, but when in doubt call your doctor...............Hope this helpsed!

Thanks crafte.

I am not bleeding as heavy as you were. I am using pantyliners, but the blood doesn't seem to flow (sorry TMI) ther is quite a lot when I wipe.

We have a public holiday here just now so the doctors are all closed, If it gets any worst I will call the hospital, but I am just wondering if this is part of the healing process or could I have done too much.
I did go shopping a few days ago... to one clothes shop to buy clothes for my girls...it wasn't stressful at all, but I was very tired afterwards and then the next day was when the bleeding started.

How much blood is too much?

Hi (((worriedsister)))

It is hard to decide sometimes what is too much bleeding. When I was bleeding so heavily my dr told me if I was filling a pad an hour that was too much. I personally felt that anything even close to that was too much. I would be calling before it reached that point.

It's generally considered normal to have some bleeding during recovery. We see some women who bleed almost the entire time and others who hardly bleed at all. For me it was on and off. Often there is bleeding that will start around the second week because of stitches beginning to dissolve.

I had some bleeding like this too. I can't remember exactly how long it lasted but I remember it turned to a brown discharge and then yellow until it stopped completely around the 7th week. The brown is old blood and the yellow was from my stitches. I could see it was the color of dye.

If you have a sense that your pain has increased or if you generally feel unwell you should call your dr and ask about this. It's always better to be safe and not worry about what's happening. Take it easy, like you have been. Hopefully it will clear up for you soon.

Thankyou so much for your replies.

I am feeling much better today. Still bleeding but by the sounds of things, a normal amount. My concern was that the bleeding had suddenly became heavier, but it's not a pad an hour.

Oh I can't wait to be off these pads for good

I sure hope I don't start bleeding again. It will be 3 weeks for me on Wed. and I haven't had any brown (old blood) for about 2 weeks now. Still waiting for the stitches to disolve? I haven't seen anything yet. Shouldn't they have started to disolve by now?

Dear Sisters: my advice to all is to walk as much as you can. I started doing this post-op day 1 and had NO bleeding and went off pain pills post op day 3. The tummy band is a lifesaver, but I stopped using that in week 2 because I didn't want to lose all tummy muscle tone. I'm now post-op week 3 and I do an hour-long light work-out every day (treadmill at 3 miles/hour and a setting of 2 on the recumbant bikes). I can't tell you how much better I feel by being also to do a slight workout - helps keep my bowels normal, which was a BIG issue initially.

My best wishes to all of you. Judy
