Re: Help: hysterectomy 6/25: all so fast - not sure what to expect

You don't say why you're having a hysterectomy but unless you are bleeding to death right now it might ok to wait.
This surgery can have a huge impact on your life physically and emotionally. And getting a second/third opinion is always highly recommended.
I too was scheduled for a hysterectomy quickly because of a risk of sepsis. I cancelled with less than 24 hours to go.
To make a very long story short, I didn't need that hysterectomy after all. I'm closing in a year and I'm fine. My fibroids and heavy bleeding are gone and I am so thankful I cancelled, took control of my body and made decisions that were right for me.
You very well may need that hysterectomy but it's very important to be sure.
Has your doctor discussed all the negative risks and side effects? And all of your options? Discussed the benefits and risks of keeping your ovaries?
Not all doctors are honest or looking out for your best interests. You have to be a smart consumer and look out for yourself.
I almost learned that the hard way. Don't be rushed into anything that could have lifelong implications without knowing it's the best thing to do.
I don't mean to throw a monkey wrench in your plans. But if you still have questions be sure to get them answered to your satisfaction.

Re: Help: hysterectomy 6/25: all so fast - not sure what to expect

Thank you. I have a preop with the doctor today. I have an extremely enlarged uterous , hemmorahing ( was giving 4 units of blood on Thursday) cysts on my ovaries and my uterous is falling out. The clots are the size of my fist. They gave me iv Premarin to try to stop the bleeding and it didn't work. I was given a depo shot last week. I have a history of cervical ca. They are gonna try to do it laparoscopic but will probably have to go thru my abdonal wall. I do trust this doctor I have had him since I was 17. I'm now 49. I work at the hospital and he is very recommended.

I have a ton of questions for the doctor. I have been reading as much as I can on this site. I'm having pain now before my surgery. I don't see to many talking about that. Im scared but tried of not sleeping. Tried of bleeding tried of the pain I have down there and now I'm rambling Thanks for your advise. . Kathy

That's good your pre-op is today. Hopefully you can get all of your questions answered and put your mind at ease. It sounds like you're in good hands.
Hugs to you.

Hi Kathy, wow it sounds like you are having some awful problems. One thing I did to stop myself from going crazy was to stop reading the posts of people having unusual complications and read only the happy ones. My problems were much less than yours and I came out if the surgery feeling 100% better. You will be happy you did this once you're done!

I'm not talking much about my pain, but I definitely have it. You're not alone. And with symptoms as severe as yours, pain is to be expected. Hope you get some relief soon.

Kathy I really hope it works out. on Sunday 6/9 something horrible like afterbirth came from me. my daughter took me to the er and was admitted. blood ct was at 5.5 I was told the fibroids were so large and causing issues even sfter having uterine ablation
My dr wanted to do emerg hysterectomy that day but decided to build my blood ct over the next 2 weeks so im like you dont know what to expect. not scheduled yet but definitely before end of next week. just curious how many women have to have hysterectomy after ablation
Kathy you are not alone so many people here are supporting you and me. this is my first post

I had an ablation April 2nd and will have a hysterectomy tomorrow. After the ablation, I had the usual discharge which turned right into a heavy period; it was as if the ablation never happened. I basically bled from early February through early May. At that point, the dr put me on a bcp which stopped the bleeding. I can't keep living like this, and I don't want to go through another school year with horrible, unpredictable periods.
