Advice/Help medication patches
Help,
About two weeks ago I started to notice my skin was red after removing my transdermal pain patch. Last week it was red, itchy and a little sore. I did see the pain management doctor and showed him the most recent two sites. He wasn't happy about the response but felt it was not a big problem seeing I was having surgery in a week. Today was even worse. The site was painful while I waited time to change the patch and continues to bother me after.
The surgery that was schedule for tues 30th was cancelled and I do not yet know when it will be. I keep changing the location to spare the skin and avoid the sun etc. I will be calling the doctor Monday to let him know the surgery was cancelled, discuss my medication needs and also my skins response to the patches.
Does anyone have experience with medication patches and skin reactions? I've been wearing them for months without a problem. Not wearing them is not an option.

Re: Advice/Help medication patches
I wore them years ago for severe chronic pain; I was able to go off in 2003. Where on your body are you wearing it? I couldn't wear it where the skin was tender; I always wore it at the base of my spine, just below or above the waist. Another option was the outer thigh. Don't know if this helps you at all, I sure hope you're able to continue to manage your pain. Hang in there and let us know...

Re: Advice/Help medication patches
I've been wearing them around my shoulders. The first pain management doctor said to apply them to area with low fat. He suggested the top of my shoulder.
Since I began going down hill late 2007 I've gain 20#+ so I have much fewer areas of 'low fat'. Currently I also have what the PT and doc said is edema around my midsection. Do you know if high water content area would effect the patch?
By outer thigh do you mean up by hip or down towards knee?
Thanks for the help
