What to eat

I haven't really read on what the hospital has you eating before you leave? And what did you eat at home for the first couple of weeks? Light foods, soft foods? Or get to the real foods right away? I don't want alot of problems with having a BM with all the other pains!! I will use stool softeners & prunes<<>>

What to eat

With my past two surgeries my doctor wouldn't let me eat any solid food until I had a BM. It was clear liquids and then some solids, once I was home I didn't have any special diets - my doctor did have me on a stool softener, which truly does help. I would definitely check with your

Food

Personally I found that soft foods that didn't cause gas worked best. They gave me a lot of ginger ale in the castle. It tasted good but caused a lot of painful gas. When they gave the O.K. for solid food I was happy, until they brought the spaghetti and green beans. (yuch)
Hot soups are good and comforting. I found that oatmeal with a little honey crunch wheat germ helped keep things moving. Ask your DOCTOR about cascara sagrada. It is an herb that relieves constipation without causing painful cramping and gas.
A good anti gas tablet will come in handy also.
Only your DOCTOR can approve what you should take so ask away before the surgery.

God Bless

What to eat

Hi,

The first day that I was home I stuck to things like applesauce and juices. I drank Ensure to get some extra nutrition and that helped with the nasty headache I had due to lack of solid foods. I did not have b.m. for four days, but my bowels were completely cleaned out prior to surgery. A nurse at the castle told me to stick to liquids as long as I could for ease on digestive tract.
