Bruised belly

I'll admit it, I wasn't in the best of shape going into my surgery. I'm plus size, with most of my weight around my waist. My belly is so bruised up. Little bruises from where they gave me the heparin shots, and a huge on on my left side which makes it challenging to stand up. Not to mention my overhang sticking to my body. I keep a hankie on my staples to keep that from hurting, but boy does the sticky flab make it no fun to get up.

Anybody have any suggestions on how they dealt with this ?

Bruised belly

Hi Mogwai,
I'm sorry to hear about the bruising and discomfort. Even after several months from surgery, I occassionally place a cotton tea towel between my ab-belly-overhang and my incision area. It amazes me how uncomfortable and truly physically irritating the sticky flab can be! I read here a month or so ago that some ladies take their left over maxi pads and place the pad between their skin/incision site and the garment touching, sticky side on the garment, of course! hehehe... I tried it...it is great! Once you have your staples removed, you will probably feel some additional relief...I sure did! I hadn't realized til they were removed how much of my discomfort was just the staples pulling the skin.

Wish the doctors thought ahead and made the incision in a better location. So sorry you have to deal with this. I wish I had good idea - I'll think of you.

I have a slight overhang also and have found putting neosporin on the incision helps. I also have some cotton gauze strips that I put in my overhang area to keep it dry and keeps it from sticking together.

P.S. I had a lot of bruising also, but now, Day 11 post op, most of the bruising is gone.

Good luck!

Watch your bruising carefully. I had bruising three days post-op.I went in to the doctor at five days and when they took my staples out blood from where the bruises were gushed out and my incision opened hip to hip and about four inches deep. I don't want to scare you just be careful. I'm plus sized too. My incison has had to be packed twice daily. I'm at almost five weeks now and it's about halfway closed.
