5 Days Post TVH- Er Visit for Narc withdrawl?

I woke up this morning shaking and in a full blown anxiety attack, crying, impending doom, every problem magnified to life threatening.. Horrible feeling. I had a horrible nights sleep and remember a ton of nightmares. I am alone for the week, Kids are with their Dad. I felt so much like I was loosing my mind or going to, that I broke rule #1 and drove straight to the ER. I am glad I did, I am perfectly fine as far as the physical healing goes with my TVH, but the combination of the Hydromorphone(morphine) both in the hospital, and at home in pills was enough , I guess to get my body to freak out when I stopped Cold Turkey on Monday. The doctor said with my predisposition for anxiety, plus the narcotic leaving my system, and my ovaries most likely in shock, I was certainly having a panick attack. Dr. gave me a good dose of Xanax, let me rest there at bit, set up an appointment with my Shrink. I carefully drove home and had a much better day.
Moral of the story is..
Never stop taking Morphine cold turkey. I wish my doctor had warned me. but then again she probably thought I would use them all and end up going from 4 X a day to 2 X a day to eventually only at night..
Well, If ever I need surgery, I may ask for something lighter in the pain meds department or make sure I ween myself off.
Otherwise I just feel gassy and bloated with a pinch of lower back pain thrown in.

YIKES! I'm so sorry that happened!!!! You poor thing, you must have felt so terribly scared!!!!
I'm glad that you are home and feeling better. Thanks for the heads up! I've heard other gals mention the panic attacks happening also. If you haven't, it might be interesting to use the google search of this site for panic attacks post op.

(((Hugs))) Panic attacks can be so scary. The first time I had one I was convinced it was a heart attack. I'm glad you're feeling better.

It's nice to know that others have had them too. I have had them in the past. But this one was different. No matter what caused it , it has passed.. and I never want another one. I will search the site for some other things that may have caused others attacks. There is still the possibility it is my Ovaries hanging in there all alone and not behaving properly.. But for now I will take the Dr.'s opinion that the Drugs did it to me.

I don't have ovaries, and my anxiety and panic attacks were horrible went I went off Estrogen for a few days. It really might be that your ovaries are still sleeping. If you keep having problems with anxiety, you might want to call your doctor and ask for hormones for a little while until they wake back up. It might help... I know I'd do just about anything to not have a panic attack ever, ever again.
