Unbearable periods: Any one else??

Hi
I'm new to this sight and I'm breaking my forum virginity lol

I'm 27 and I want an elective hysterectomy.

So what's happening, well, since having my kids my periods changed to unbearable periods from hell. My cramps felt like first stages of labor and would put in tears. My period would now go from only 7 days of medium flow to 2 weeks if constant gushing. Changing tampons every 30mins to an hour. Huge clots, nausea, light headed and fatigued. Went to the doctor about it 2 years ago when I was still bleeding after 3 weeks. He prescribed me a drug to stop my period and sent me for an ultrasound, as well as an internal ultrasound. The results came back and they found cysts on my cervix and a cluster of cysts inside my uterus. Referred to specialist.

The specialist done an examination, dismissed my ultrasound results as not important. He agreed to preform a laparoscopy and hysterscopy to investigate only because I pushed for answers. The results for this showed no signs of endometriosis and his solution for my issues was to give me a script with no end date for the drug that stops excess bleeding and told me just to skip my periods and basically deal with it, he also said we can look at performing a hysterectomy when your 30.

So where has that 'solution' left me? In the same pain as I was in 2 years ago. I have tried the IUD only to have it removed due to placement complications and will never get it again. I no longer take the pill as I was experiencing horrible side effects when I would stop taking them to have my period every six months. I would have menopausal syptoms.

So I'm at a loss. I can not function normally when I get my period because of the pain. I'm petrified to go out in public in case I gush through my pants. I want a hysterectomy!

Is there anyone else out there that has been in my situation? Any advice would be great! I'm going to make an appointment for a second opinion.

Oh forgot to add that my nan had the same issues and had a hysterectomy when she was 28...not sure if family history plays a part in things like this

Re: Any one else been through this?

Hi, Maychicky. I don't really have much advice for you, but I applaud your decision to get a second opinion. In fact, get as *many* opinions as you need to find your answers and find relief. It's been rough, obviously. Hang in there.

Thanks! I just feel ignored and that that there is no hope, so to speak.

Re: Any one else been through this?

I would go for that second opinion, third, fourth if needed. Sounds like you have tried many things to control it. Men don't have to go through the heavy bleeding so I feel they really do not know what a pain, hassled and how it can stop our lives. I understand your need. Finding a doctor that will agree is one task, then getting insurance to approve might be the other obstacle.

Go for another opinion and don't give up.

Re: Any one else been through this?

I agree, definitely go for another opinion. Years ago, I had a male gynolocologist and when I would tell him of my symptoms and complaints, he would just insist it was PMS. I finally switched to a female, and I really think they are just more sympathetic to and understand what our bodies are going through. She really listened to me, dug deeper and explored all possibilities and options with me, and I had much better success with her.

Re: Any one else been through this?

I completely get what you are saying i was in that very same situation. Im now 37 walked into a new gyn office and literaly said "if you dont give me a hysterectomy ima take a life". A little dramatic, yes. However within a week testing has begun and im confident my hysterectomy is coming shortly. Hang in there

Re: Any one else been through this?

Agree on getting a second opinion. I took me FIVE doctors to find one who finally diagnosed me properly!

Ironically, the first 4 were female, as I thought a man wouldn't understand. My 5th doctor, a man, not only diagnosed properly, but he listened, explained, and understood. And performed the most outstanding surgery I could have imagined.

I would definitely get another opinion with a gyno specialist. I suffered for years with period pain, being on the rag all the time...it just never quit! So, at the ripe age of 47 they finally went with a total hysterectomy after discovery of an ovarian cyst and a cancer scare. I also had some endometriosis and cysts inside the uterus which they discovered during surgery. I feel blessed to have had a good doc for all this! Almost 7 weeks and not completely healed but getting better!

Re: Any one else been through this?

Hi! I too have been suffering with bad periods for years. Thought they were the norm. This past May and June I went to the er because they were so bad. Like non-stop bleeding. Really scared me. I found out in June that I have a 6cm fibroid. My doc now put me on birth control to help with the bleeding. I haven't flooded like I was before but I have constant break through bleeding. My doc also wants me to have a biopsy done and hysterectomy-ultrasound and then try an ablation. I don't want to do either of those. I am 42 and am not having anymore children. I take care of my 13 year old handicapped child. I just want a hysterectomy. I am seeking a 2nd opinion too. It is with a lady this time. I am however terrified of being put under but I want this nightmare to end.

Re: Unbearable periods: Any one else??

Today was another example of why I should get a hysterectomy. I had been taking two birth control pills a day for three weeks to avoid a period during my European holiday. When I got back to the USI started taking only 1 pill and then had my period. My period / bleeding has last about two weeks. This afternoon I started to bleed heavily - felt like I lost pint of blood in 2 hours. Non-stop flow. The first gush I was in public and had drips of blood fall on floor even though I was wearing a pad and thank goodness black pants. I recall one morning waking up feeling a gush, getting out of bed and creating a huge stain of blood on my carpet. I refuse to wear white and mostly wear dark colors since I never know when a gushing moment may occur. My periods don't hurt they just are long and very heavy at times. They have gotten heavier with time- I think change due to increasing size of fibroid. My fibroid is large and if it continues to grow would require a more complicated surgery and dealing with more heavy periods. I feel mixed emotions about the hysterectomy and fear complications / healing ; but I hate dealing with these heavy periods.
