Anyone have link for checking surgeons credentials?

Just posted my first "introduce yourself"and received a warm welcome that brought tears to my eyes. I tried to reply back..(with a thank you) and was reminded this site is not for "chat". Its for posting only. (which is really neat) ~
Next question: Does anyone have a link to check out a surgeons credentials? There are alot of links...most of which charge a fee.
I know there is the AMA...(American Medical Asso.) but am wondering if there is any other FREE links to check out credentials?

your insurance company and the hospital at which your surgeon has rights will have any and all information you request. your dr's credentials are public information....and dont forget you can always ask your dr for his/her credentials.

Thank your for your reply dg. Actually, a surgeons credentials are public...but litigation and malpractice aren't. Checking out a surgeons malpractice suits....is, once again a nightmare. So I know I was whistling in the wind. I do know....you can find "malpractice" in sites.....for physicians...just forgot the link. I also know...when a doctor (any) is in litigation...for malpractice, they or the law doesn't require that they give information. (legally) I was not concerned with insurance companies..or hospitals...thats a whole other story. Just was hoping to find a free link..to see if one particular surgeon had any lawsuits in the past. ~ Thank you so much for replying...this can be a nightmare.

I would also like to know if there is a link, that doesn't charge you.I was wondering if the State is required to tell you if they have a lawsuit pending.

Here is one. Just click on the state that your dr. is in and click on license look up. Hope this helps. Some dr's have a physician profile link look up to click on so that you can see where they went to school, if they have had any lawsuits, etc.... http://www.mhsource.com/resource/board.html

i guess i can only speak for VA...when a dr is sued and is found negligent it IS public record. also if a dr is convicted of a crime it is public record. VA even has dr's suits, court cases, etc posted under each dr's lookup if the dr does indeed have past lawsuits, judgements, criminal acts, etc....once the suit is discharged from t courts/settled it does indeed become public record.......................................as far as my mention of insurance companies and hospitals, if you read my post over i state that you can get DR's credentials/information from them...i wasnt saying that you wanted hospitals/insurance companies information.
good luck in your search...see if your state has an online dr lookup..if not call your states medical board and ask about the dr in question.
