Bleeding 4-5 Weeks Post Hysterectomy
I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I had my hysterectomy 5 weeks ago (DaVinci). Only my ovaries are left. I haven't had any pain and have felt better than ever since week #2 post-op. Last week, 4 weeks out, I started bleeding heavily for a day. The next day when I got to the hospital to see my doctor, he examined me and said the cuff looked okay and he couldn't determine by exam where the bleeding would have been coming from, and he said bleeding should definitely not be happening right now. He wants to monitor it. Yesterday it happened again, exactly one week later. Same thing, heavy bleeding all at once, but now nothing...stopped over night. I had a little bit of cramping yesterday and a headache came on around the same time the bleeding hit. I'm pretty upset this has happened twice now and doctor isn't sure why yet.

Re: Bleeding 4-5 Weeks Post Hysterectomy
I had the davinci and start spotting at around 3 weeks, I only had one episode of actual bleeding and it scared me. Anyway, I spotted on and off until week 8 when it finally stopped. My Doctor said it was normal, but he did say mine was because of the vaginal cuff. He said sometimes with Davinci patients the vaginal cuff takes longer to heal. So if your is not from that I don't know. I know it is hard not to worry, but hopefully maybe whatever it was has passed now.

Re: Bleeding 4-5 Weeks Post Hysterectomy
About 2 weeks after my surgery I started bleeding like first day of period and I called my dr. I was told that it was most likely my internal stitches were healing and that I had a hematoma above the vaginal cuff that had built up blood. when the stitches dissolved it released that. I was told that if I had heavy bleeding that required frequent pad changes and lasted for >6 hours that i needed to call and come in right away. Particularly if it was accompanied with chills and a higher than normal temperature. Otherwise the type of bleeding or spotting I was having was considered normal. My dr had told me that this could go off/on for up to 40 days.
In my case my off/on bleeding lasted about 2-3 days, but never got to the point I needed a pad. I'm going on week 3 post surgery and i still have occasional very light spotting.
You could ask you dr about a hematoma and stitches dissolving could be the cause?

Re: Bleeding 4-5 Weeks Post Hysterectomy
Thank you so much for your responses Hamsterzilla and Princess Jasmin. He did check the cuff last week and thought at first bleeding might have been from a tear there or from dissolving sutures but after the exam he said neither was the case. Of course both times with the bleeding it happened on a Sunday when he was not available to examine me while the bleeding is still present. It has completely stopped now.

I had the DaVinci method too. (July 2nd) I was also concerned about on and off spotting, bleeding, cramping. I was told this was all normal process for healing for the few few weeks (as long as it is not heavy) I am now starting my 6 week today. I have had no bleeding for about 5 days and it has been wonderful!

Re: Bleeding 4-5 Weeks Post Hysterectomy
i had an abd hyst on 7/24 and have been feeling great. now today (13days postop) i'm noticing light pink spotting upon wiping. having mild cramping (haven't needed pain meds except at nite) trying not to panic. i've already seen doc 4 days ago for weird rash reaction and i don't want to keep calling with what i think are problems. should i be concerned? i'm not doing any lifting or strenuous so i'm not sure why this is happening

Re: Bleeding 4-5 Weeks Post Hysterectomy
My bleeding was very heavy, bright red and with clots both times it happened. It stopped as unexpected and fast as it came though. My doctor said no way should heavy bleeding be happening and is not normal for being a month out from surgery. I never had just light spotting so am not sure if that is normal, but from what others seem to say their doctors have said the light spotting was normal? Sorry this happened to you too. It's hard to not be terrified wondering what's going on with our bodies. I never expected to see another day in my life with heavy bleeding ever again and couldn't believe it when it happened. Good thing I didn't burn my boxes of pads after surgery

Re: Bleeding 4-5 Weeks Post Hysterectomy
Thank you Scrapjack and the same to you.
Believe me, the first time it happened last week I was very hysterical and my husband had all he could do to calm me down. We were out with people and I was just standing around talking when a little fatigue and aching hit me, and then the heavy bleeding. Yesterday it was the same thing, but without the pain, except for a little crampiness. Today I feel as good as new again. I'm forcing myself to rest for another 3 or 4 weeks even though doctor cleared me at 2 weeks to do whatever I wanted. I probably have been over-doing it because I feel so well. But when I told him all of the activiteis I'm involved in, he said those things would never cause the bleeding?

Re: Bleeding 4-5 Weeks Post Hysterectomy
and yet your doc doesn't want to check it out? well, at least your resting has caused it to stop. please insist on a check up if it happens again, which i hope it doesn't.
