Pain meds after hysterectomy/constipation

I quit taking my Oxycodone the day after I got home from the hospital after my LAVH. I felt like it was causing me to be constipated and having trapped gas. Does anyone know if this is true or not? I would like to take one every now and then, but this problem has been atrocious, and I don't want to cause any more issues! I had my hysterectomy 4 days ago, so shouldn't need them too much longer I don't think. Thanks!

Re: Pain meds after hysterectomy/constipation

Ugggi still need some pain control! But yes all each and every prescription pain killer constipates me very bad. To point of not being able to go emergency level so I totally feel you not wanting to take them. I was given a script for dilaudid which I haven't even filled noo way lol. Hate the way I feel on that stuff just been using Tylenol and ib profen but now getting away from ib prof because even that messes me up eventually.

I took Loratab and I know it was constipating. My doctor told me I could take Miralax to help with the constipation. You might want to talk to your doctor about it.

Re: Pain meds after hysterectomy/constipation

The pain pills can cause constipation. I took them faithfully the first couple of days & then took them as needed. My Dr. had recommended Miralax or Milk of Magnesia to help with the constipation. You might want to check with your Dr. to see if they recommend something to get you going again
