1 week post op - vast of emotions

I had my hystorectomy last monday. I was told 3 1/2 years ago that I needed to have it done. At that time I refused to believe that this was the only option I had, so I got a second opinion. The second doctor I saw felt I had other alternatives. I had a uterine ablasion and endometrial removal done. That only helped for 3 years. So out of options I reluctantly and very depressingly had my surgery. Im hoping that with time and maybe support I will come to terms with this decision. For the time being I just feel empty, sad, depressed, angry, and just plain useless. Will these feelings go away?

Re: 1 week post op - vast of emotions

Your body is going through a lot right now, so it is totally normal to have lots of emotions going on right now. Are you on HRT? Why were you hesitant to have the surgery? Do you have any support from your family?

Hang in there...it will get better

Re: 1 week post op - vast of emotions

My doctor started me on estradiol the day after my surgery. There are so many reasons I was heasitent to have the surgery. I just hate what it means to behonest. I have children but i hate the Idea that I will never have any more. I dont mean to sound insensitive to others that do not have any children, I am truely blessed and lucky to have the ones that I do. I dont know I feel like im not even me any more. What made me a woman is now gone. Im so affraid that my husband is not going to still find me attractive, and that my in ablility to have children will make him leave me. He says that nothing is going to change how he feels but he is already irritated by my mood changes. He just doesnt understand what im going through. The one person who i feel would have been of great support to me in this time would have been my sister and she passed away last year. This whole thing has been just too devistating.

Re: 1 week post op - vast of emotions

Hey there

Same here! 5 years I resisted to have this surgery On March 20, I had to have mine too since we were run out of options.

You are not made of an uterus no doubt or a child baring machine. You are made of all those qualities your husband once fell for you, your children and friends love you.

We are an unfortunate bunch of people had to go through this suffering but this is an ilness with a "solution" for God's sake! We are moving on safe and sound!

Please be good
Cheers

I know exactly how u are feeling, I had my hysterectomy about ten weeks ago, I had all those feeling about children, hubby and emptiness. Although I have 3 great kids and know I don't want more, Its hard to get my head round that the option is gone. However I feel so well now and can be a healthy mum to the children I have x x the thoughts you are having will ease, at first my mind was consumed with these emotions, now I only think bout it occasionally x x hormones play a big part on how your feeling. Once they settle you will feel more positive and look back and realise you made the best decision x x,take care x
