Sex after surgery- 2-4 weeks???

Okay, so I came across this article, which actually turns out to be a chapter from the book Total Health For Women. (you can find it on Amazon but I can't link to it) In their hysterectomy chapter- well, here's the quote:

"Resume sex ASAP. Try to have sex as soon as you can after the surgery, says Dr. Williamson. She recommends that women wait 10 to 14 days for the incision to heal. Part of the healing process after surgery is the development of scar tissue, and if women wait too long, the scar tissue in the pelvic cavity and around the vaginal incision can become very tough, making sex more uncomfortable, she says. Having sex can minimize the scar tissue toughness, because the area gets increased circulation and expands during engorgement.

"We would like women to resume intercourse, gentle intercourse, between the two- and four-week period, if possible," she says. Women should try to have sex at least twice a week until the healing process is complete, she says, which can take as long as three months. "

The Dr. Williamson referred to here is Marvel Williamson, R.N., Ph.D., professor of nursing and director of the School of Nursing at Park College in Parkville, Missouri. Has anyone ever heard this? The book was published in 1995. Is this simply a matter of out of date information?

Trust me, I'm not doing anything without the OK from my doctor, I just thought this was interesting and wondered if anyone had heard this before. I guess you can tell where MY mind is at this afternoon

wow crazy...I looked at the pics and the row of stitches...no way I taking a chance of infection! yikes! Yeah stick with what doc says...6 to 8 wks for me...

No way. That is completely nuts.

Are you sure Dr. Williamson isn't a man?

Haha A man who's wife recently had a hysterectomy, maybe?

I'm with Srob, 6-8 weeks(almost there too) Remembering how I felt at 2 weeks, makes me cringe now thinking about it. I have also looked up a lot about my surgery and all the places I have stitches and the chance of infection or damage, does not out way the pleasure and release.

Does the article say exactly what was done? Maybe just the uterus removed?

Gentle intercourse?? I don't know how many sex deprived men know what that is, lol. Throw in nervous/scared women and you have a recipe for disaster, IMO.

The chapter was intended to be general information for women.

And the thing about the sex deprived man made me laugh so hard it hurt!

oh dear...that sounds like such bad information to me...to much of a chance for torn stitches and other problems...I can not imaging even trying between 2 and 4 weeks post op...good grief
