Should I cancel hyst and live with symptoms?

My story is also similar to yours.....Heavy Heavy bleeding... Clotting like you cannot believe, cramps, fibroids. My doctor said ablation and myectomy are not options. I don't know where you read about the fibroids coming back. Like one other sister said, they can't... maybe that was with a myectomy, not hysterectomy. I also would not worry about the bleeding being worse.... Some said that they still have spotting, but if that happens you can be corterized to stop it. My DD had that done and she does not bleed anymore and it was painless. I was worried about making my problems worse also. that fear is gone... I am more nervous about leaving these fibroids to do their won thing, not knowing what they will do. My doctor says I can have the LSH and that if I wait and the fibroids grow, he may have to do an abdominal incision......That was my deciding factor. I am 48 and he says from the looks of it I am nowhere near menopause, and based on my family history (sister and mom) who were 58....I have 10 more years of this..... No way, I am tired and worn out... Want my life back, tired of being embarrassed to have relations with my DH of 28 years who I love so much becuase I am always spotting/bleeding.... Hope this helps.... do what you have peace about and let us know. I am ready and I know you will decide what is best for you... besides look at all the support you have....... Keep me posted please.. i feel like our story is so much the same. God Bless

Wow! Thanks to eveyone for being so suppotive and sharing your stories.

Juliebr-Thanks so much for writing. You are the most similiar to me. My periods are not heavy and I am not amenic. The ablation did cure me of those problems. But I do have longer than normal periods as a result of the ablation and a lot of pain during my period and take drugs that make me doopy.

Itstime-thanks on behalf of eveyone for the stats on complications.

Christy-why did you have your ovaries out 5 years later? Did they go bad as a consequence of your hyster? Or did they have other issues? I worry about this.

Weiser-How long were your ovaries out of commission? I hope this doesn't happen to me cuz I know myself - I will go into panic mode.

Thank you all.

No need to go into panic mode! For some ladies, their ovaries kick right in, with no fuss. For some of us, it just takes a bit, as their blood supply has been interrupted. I did not go into full blown surgical menopause at all. My ovaries were not totally not working, they were just not working to full compacity so to speak! I had some menopause symptoms mixed in with some PMS symptoms while my ovaries and body recovered from surgery.

If you do have symptoms that you can not tolerate, you can talk to your dr about what options are available for you. For instance, my mom's GYN automatically put her on HRT after her hyst until he knew her ovaries were working, to prevent her from having the menopause type symptoms.

Many s to you as you continue to decide what is best for you!
