17 weeks post op SEVERE pelvic pain
Please HELP ME! I had a total hyst on 11/21/11, they took uterus/tubes/cervix, left ovaries. I had the hyst because of endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain and heavy bleeding. Exactly one month to the day of my surg. I had to go back in for a vag. cuff repair. Another laparoscopy was done to assess recovery. They found multiple adhesions had formed, removed them and place some sort of mesh down to keep it from happening again. Well, here I am 17 weeks past the first surgery, 13 weeks past the second surgery and I am in pain EVERY day. The pain is more severe after intercourse, when I ovulate, and any time I do anything very active. I am miserable. I don't know what else to do. I have had 2 exams in the last few weeks, both of which showed the cuff is healed and looks normal. The pain is STILL affecting my daily activities and life. Some days I can't even walk completely upright because of the pain. Can anyone help me? My doctor has me on pain meds to manage currently. He says there is a possibility that the adhesions have returned, which could be causing the pain. He doesn't want to do another surgery though until I have hit the 6 month post-op mark. I saw his associate yesterday because of severe pelvic pain and was told I was having a muscle spasm of the vagina. I don't mean to blow-off what a doctor says, but I know the kind of pain I'm having and it's NOT a muscle. I keep logs of my pain and the pain is consistent with ovulation, according to my records. Anyone have any advice for me? Should I wait it out? Am I expecting too much too soon? This is my first 'major' surgery.

Re: 17 weeks post op SEVERE pelvic pain
Have you had a transvaginal ultrasound during/right around ovulation? Because your pain is related to ovulation I would think this would be beneficial. I think keeping the pain diary is an excellent idea, although I know some doctors like to see several cycles to confirm a pain pattern. Based on what they see on the ultrasound, maybe you would be a candidate for having ovaries removed as well?
I have a back injury that was being aggravated by my cycles, all centered on ovulation. I was living on narcotics from ovulation day until I started my period. My new dr scheduled an u/s during ovulation and saw inflamed/enlarged ovaries as well as an enlarged uterus. Surgery confirmed this as well as endo, a large ovarian cyst, and varicose veins in my pelvis. The varicose veins are consistent with an issue called Pelvic Congestion Syndrome. If you haven't already, do a google search on this-- it sounds similar to what you've described.
Hang in there!

I don't think this is normal at all. If your doc isn't willing to help you, you should seek out a second opinion. I'm wondering, if it isn't adhesions (and I hear those can bring an extraordinary amount of pain), then maybe it's endometriosis that wasn't found and taken out. I'm just guessing at this point. But I don't think you should be having this level of pain at this point in your recovery.

Re: 17 weeks post op SEVERE pelvic pain
I'm so sorry you're going through this. I wish I had more to offer, but the pain diary sounds like a good plan to keep up while you're trying to figure this thing out.
I just didn't want to read your post and run.
I hope you find relief and some real answers soon.
