Week 4 post hysterectomy still have open areas at incision

Had my surgery Oct 13th. Everything was removed. Had some complications. 2 weeks on antibiotics for a uti and in infection at the incision. I still have 2 open areas on my incision. Each one about an inch long. Both more to the right side. I am calling my doc in the morning as a had some bloody drainage this morning and this evening. It doesnt appear infected again, but the one opening appears pretty deep. I am still in pain, but i dont want to ask for more pain meds. But i may have to. Moving is very uncomfortable. Sleeping is a nightmare. I am so tired and depressed. Ive been taking it easy so i thought. So not sure what i am doing wrong :-( it is so depressing! I just want to cry!

Re: Week 4 post hysterectomy still have open areas at incision

Oh sweetie, I wish that you didn't have to go through this try not to concentrate on what you think you are doing wrong, because you probably aren't doing anything wrong.

Give your doctor a call, explain what's going on. S/he may want to look at your incision. Also tell him/her about your pain level. You do not have to suffer through this.

I wish that I could offer more than but please try to I can't say when things will get better, but I'm praying that things will get better soon.

Re: Week 4 post hysterectomy still have open areas at incision

I am 7 weeks post op and had an infection on incisions that required oral antibiotic and finally an antibiotic cream to put on incisions. They are just now closing up 2 I believe are fully closed the other 2 are taking their sweet time about closing. Are you on a prescription antibiotic cream?

Re: Week 4 post hysterectomy still have open areas at incision

I have just recovered from a similar problem, all closed up now but the incision is still not pretty. I had a course of antibiotics intially but that didn't seem to help much. Eventually my GP decided to put a waterproof dressing back on (wished they'd done that or suggested it intially), that did help one area to close, but I still needed to get in to see my surgeon early for a post op at 5 weeks, as it was still an issue. He pulled up an underlying suture or two that were working its way out aggravating the wound and keeping it open. Then it closed properly.

Re: Week 4 post hysterectomy still have open areas at incision

I hope no more stitches or pulling on anything. I am so sore and touchy. I am so tired of hurting. I had so much pain before and was so tired. And i was given no information about what to expect after surgery. This site has been my only refuge. And i did have several complications. Lost a lot of blood and the infections and discovering i am diabetic after surgery. So i understand healing is going slow. I am just depressed and frustrated.
