Frustrated After Post-Op
According to my doc "light exercise" is walking around the yard, doing small loads of laundry, feeding the dogs, and FINALLY being able to lift a gallon of milk ALL BY MYSELF. w00t. He's not one of those "casual surgery" guys--especially for the first 4 weeks. Hope that helps.

KM Wish Star,
Thanks for the advice! I was hoping that was the answer.
It is SO very nice to have folks who are going through this same thing!

Frustrated After Post-Op
You're very welcome! This doc is wonderful! Every female I know goes to him--teenaged neices and mom included. He takes LOTS of time to discuss absolutely everything, especially before the surgery. I think we had 2 or 3 appointments where we mostly just talked about options, risks & expectations--and he would NOT let me give him a decision at those appointments. I had to wait several days, think about it, sleep on it, do my own research, then call back. He's been an OB/Gyn about 25 years but somehow keeps up with all the latest research too. My first choice had been a doctor I'd seen many years ago, but he was in such a rush, wanting to just tell me what he was going to do--DH said, "You are NOT cattle... get another doc". Great idea. I've been very, very happy with everything except the gooshy belly so far. Best of luck to you.

Frustrated After Post-Op
My Dr is another who really has surprised me. I really liked him a lot pre-op, but now I don't . He gave me no info what so ever pre or post. I went for my 1 week and he told me nothing except that I have an infection and need antibiotics. The nurse was schocked that he doesn't want to see me untill dec 30(6 wks). I really feel like he really thinks that this was no BIG deal. I Thank God that I found this site.

mickeymouse,
I have a message in to my dr right now...I am pretty sure I have some type of infection...does the antibiotic seem to be helping? Did it set back your recovery checkpoints any?

Frustrated After Post-Op
The one I went to first, though my GP had reccomended the one I have now, was wonderful 16 years ago when he delivered my very preemie son. Something happened in those years and now he's a real *******. He was brutal on the biopsy and I was in pain a week--doing everything in a big rush with no consultation. I am SO glad hubby put the brakes on that and reminded me that I'm the customer in this situation. Yay hubby! BTW... if you can find a doctor who has ever been really sick or in a bad accident, or had parents with long-term illness, they make the best docs.

Frustrated After Post-Op
well, my night was awful. I was up every two hours, changing my pad. Congealed blood and more. I don't think that's typical.
Well, by 7am, the ordeal was lessened. I'm just having a light leak. Whew!!
I called the doc to give them info for my file. THe Med Asst. had hers done last Thanksgiving. She was concerned about the bleeding, so she asked the doc. Well, I knew it: he said my stitches are melting and it's normal. (He and my bro told me the stitches wouldn't melt until the 4-5th week! and I'm only on my 3rd). hmmm. THen, I said I didn't see the stitches (noodle looking), the MedAsst said she never saw stitches when hers melted.
IN ALL, I'm not going to work until I feel the flow would be light.
DRATS: I have to go out and buy pads!! I thought I'd never need them...ugh.

Frustrated After Post-Op
Hi Dusti-
We must have the same doctor... I had a list of questions pre-op and although she answered them, I felt like she wasn't genuine and found when I came home after surgery the answers were so incomplete. Thank God for this website because there were so many restrictions and diet restrictions I should have been told about by Dr., I would have messed up this surgery, had I not read Hystersisters and called the Dr. on it. I detected a distinct attitude at my 6 week post-op on 11/15/05 and came real close to an arguement when I politely asked for a copy of the surgery records and requested a release letter to resume normal activity because my life insurance company wanted them in order to renew my policy. What a 'B' ! She gave me such a hard time and I ended up paying $7. for the copy. Also, she said (for the 6th time in the last 3 months of visits) that my periods would stop now. HAHAHA!! I gently reminded her that I've been post-menopausal for 4 years and I've been her patient for 7 years! I had to call again today and make a second request for the letter and the office messed up the letter so bad with wrong info, it had to be re-done. (the office staff incompetancy was on-going since pre-op.) I fired my Dr. this morning over the phone and told her I was finished with her lax behavior and incompetancy of the staff. I am now going to contact the hospital to get copies of my records because I believe one of the procedures I had was not performed. ANyway, it felt good to get this off my chest and Dusti, all I can say is if that's the way your Doctor is acting...you have control and go find a doctor who gives a hoot. I am. There's no excuse for it in the medical community.
You take care!!
Jean

Frustrated After Post-Op
Unfortunately, for some doctors a hysterectomy isn't a big deal. They do so many that it becomes a conveyor belt of bodies having uteruses removed and the person having it done is just another op. They tend to think we can get over it and get on with our lives, forgetting that for us it is a very big deal. My boss told the other staff I was having a routine operation - routine! - as though I were having my tonsils removed. But this is just how some people see it, especially men unfortunately.

nextonlist,
My infection is still not gone actually it is worst. I have 1 day of antibiotics left , so I will most likely call the Dr tomorrow, but I am sure he wont give a hoot. I really wish I had a different Dr but I think it would be really hard to start with a new Dr at this point in recovery. I will definetly get a new OB/GYN after I am feeling better
