Just schedules pre surgical testing and now it seems so very real!

I just scheduled my pre surgical testing and now I am just sooo nervous! I know I am making the right decision because I can no longer live the way I am living..but...I am scared that something else will go wrong and I will regret my decision...! How can I ease my mind until surgery which is on 12/12/12?

Re: Just schedules pre surgical testing and now it seems so very real!

I keep reading and reading on here to make sure that others come through with flying colors. yes we will all be sore and achey and possibly crabby - but its not like we are going in for face lifts. we all have various issues as to why the uterus and company must go.. its not something taken lightly... just know that on the other side your life will get better.. yes, you will heal first, then you will learn to enjoy the pad free existence!

Re: Just schedules pre surgical testing and now it seems so very real!

Between now and your date, keep busy. Don't overdo it to the point that you are exhausted but, keep busy. It is perfectly normal to be nervous. This is major surgery. This is the time to do things you won't be able to do for a while. Some major house cleaning, cook and freeze some meals ahead, soak in a nice hot bath (I'm still not able to do that). Make sure to do things to keep yourself healthy. It is so easy this time of year to catch colds and flu from being out with others. But, you will want to get any Christmas shopping done before your surgery.

I did have a complication. But, it wasn't so horrible that I regret having my surgery. Apparently I did too much at some point in time, lifted too much. I tried really hard to be good so I don't know when or what exactly I did. Some of the stitches in my vaginal cuff didn't hold. I had to go back for a quick little surgery at six weeks to put in more stitches. I had to stay out of work an additional three weeks. But, even with that, I'm glad I had it done! Doctor said it had been at least two years since he had to take someone back in to add stitches (lucky me) so, it's not a common thing.

After surgery, take care of yourself! Take a few deep breaths and try to relax.

Re: Just schedules pre surgical testing and now it seems so very real!

The pre-op really brings it home. I remember at my pre-op thinking "Wow, this is really going to happen isn't it!". Your nerves and fears are normal. This is MAJOR SURGERY, with removal of an important organ. Of course you are upset!

I don't think any of us wanted to have a hysterectomy, but our medical condition (what ever that was) made it necessary. It was the best solution we had.

Keeping busy is a good way to get your mind off the surgery. Getting your house in order for our downtime - meals in the freezer and super clean your house as AnnieKing suggested - are great ideas. Christmas shopping done and wrapped is also good. You will also want to purchase, if you do not already have, a small pillow to hold against your tummy for coughs and sneezes post-op, as well as pet visits (if applicable). Also get some loose fitting, comfy clothes. I lived in sweats and old shorts for 12 weeks.
