33 days post hysterectomy hormones

I'm an LAVH with ovary removal 33 days post op. I went back to work at 21 days. A bit soon. I was doing more harm than good at home. My idea of light house keeping & the medical profession are not the same! Work is stressful but I can sit & no lifting or bending, unless I drop a pen & then it stays there.
Overall my recovery has gone well. I'm 42 & as my friends have said this has been 20yrs in the making. I stayed one night In hospital. Got off drugs other than ibu & an occasional vicodin in 24hrs. Mostly compared to the pain I've lived with for so many years this part was easier & i could see the light at the end of the tunnel. Worst part was waking up & thinking my vaginal had been obliterated. Later learned they keep it open w a weighted speculum. #ouch
I had a dermoid tumor (grapefruit sized) 15 yo along with a correction of torsion. I was diagnosed with endometriosis when I was 19 & hormonal related migraines. Living in pain has been normal. I had an Ablation/tubal ligation in Feb 2014. It didn't take. My endometrium grew back after 8mos. Thats how I got here!
Again so far I feel well. I've been perimenopausal for a cpl years. However 10 days post op full medical menopause hit with such wrath.
I'm living by steam bath hot flashes & chills at every whim. I'm sleeping only 2 to 3 hrs a night. My filter (Which I barely had anyway) is gone & I'm anxious & agitated. As of yesterday I'm weepy. & I've gained weight?!
I'm not on HRT yet. I tried ambien it didn't work. Xanax is keeping me together.
I'm at a loss. I hope some will read this long post and has suggestions.

Re: Post op update & hormones

So sorry you're having a rough time. I'm 12 weeks post op and went on hrt estradiol 1 mg pill after addressing symptoms at 3 wks post op. I find that the benefits outweigh the risks for me. I still have some daily vaginal dryness and can't fall asleep very quickly each night but hot flashes have subsided and overall I feel like my old self again . Just wanted to answer you don't know if it helps or not.I see my dr again in Oct for yearly and will mention any other symptoms at the time. Maybe your dr can help you also. Good luck!

Re: Post op update & hormones

JennieK,

It may be that replacing some of your estrogen will help you. I went on the patch at 10 days post op and had the exact same symptoms you describe. Though it didn't make everything better right away, I could feel a positive difference within 24 hours. It took 5 weeks for things to settle down enough to say the patch was working for me, but patience is key with hormones. It also helps to keep a symptom journal. It makes it easier for both you and your doctor to determine what works and what doesn't. I wish you luck.

Thank u so much. I'm interested in hrt. My dr wants a baseline. I'm recording everything. I've had issues with the pill & mirena so we will see. I'm not opposed to anything really. Just wanna have "most" of my ducks in a row.
