Scared and Will Be Glad When It's Over
Hi, my name is Kim, devoted wife and mother to a beautfiul ten year old girl!
I'll try to be brief wit my story. My problems started last October when I skipped a period. Same thing happened in November. Then December 24 I had the worst period EVER, lots of clots and break-through bleeding that would soil my clothes, it lasted for 17 days! That ended January 15, only to start again on January 28 and last 21 days! That was when I went to the doctor.
She did a pap smear, extensive thyroid tests and an endometrial biopsy. Everything came back fine except the biopsy which showed endometrial hyperlasia without atypia. Didn't seem like that big of a deal at the time and the original plan was to treat it with progesterone.
However, a few weeks before I had a weird rash show up on my upper left thigh which ended up being Livedo Reticularis. I am also anemic due to all the blood loss and my family doctor thinks the livedo is related to the increased pressure in my blood vessels due to the anemia but they are doing some blood tests to determine if it is a secondary symptom of an auto-immune disease!!!!! That alone has me scared.
So, now my OB/GYN says progesterone is just inviting trouble and she will only do a D&C. She also did a trans-vaginal ultrasound today and the lining of my uterus measured 23? I know it's not inches, but normal is 5 so it's REALLY thick! She now says her best recommendation is a hysterectomy. I could just have a D&C, but the chances it would re-thicken are high, especially if I go through late menopause!
In addition to all of this my blood pressure was teetering on becoming high (in the 140's), so I've been on bp meds for about five months. I also have PVC's which the beta-blocker has helped but not fully corrected. Seems to get worse with stress and also correlates with my cycle, which of course is totally whacked! So it is any wonder I'm under stress?????
So, as of today I am scheduled for a hysterectomy on Wednesday of next week, March 24. My ob-gyn is about to on medical leave so she wants to do it quickly, which is kind of ok with me as I won't have weeks of stressful waiting. I am really scared, in part because of the issues with my bp pvc's and anemia. She said they will probably do a blood transfusion to help with the anemia. But then if the tests come back positive for an auto-immune disease, what then???? I'm sorry to sound so whiny, I just have SO many different issues that complicate all of this.
I'm hoping to find some encouragement here, especially from anyone with blood pressure and arrhythmia issues. I just want to know that I'm going to come out from under anesthesia and heal and be okay. I know no one can give me guarantees but it sure would help to hear from people on the other side of this. Once I get through this, I'll hold your hand! :0)
Hugs,
Kim

Re: Scared and Will Be Glad When It's Over
Hi Kim! Welcome to this site! I am still on the "waiting" side and I don't have your blood pressure or arrhythmia issues...so I can't offer advice. I am just writing to say I wish you the very best! This sure has happened quickly for you in terms of the hysterectomy - I hope you are feeling 100% solid about that decision. I understand it's tough because your doctor has a finite timeline but I can't help wondering if this is something worth getting a second opinion on?
You have SO many things to be thinking about here, it's hard enough just dealing with anaemia and fibroids! My heart goes out to you! If possible, try to think of your various tests as "elimination tests", so the test for autoimmune deficiency is just to eliminate that possibility. Stay strong and stay positive...and please consider a second opinion (nothing against your doctor at all!).

Re: Scared and Will Be Glad When It's Over
Hi Kim ~~
Sorry you have so much to deal with now. I just wanted to say hello and try to give you some encouragement.
I had a D&C in Dec. for postmenopausal bleeding and thickened endometrial lining with the diagnosis of hyperplasia w/o atypia. Dr. said I could try hormones and then need another D&C in 3 months or just go with the hysterectomy and be done with it. I chose the hyster and don't regret it.
I had a TLH on Feb. 18 and am doing great. I take meds for blood pressure, hypothyroid, and acid reflux. I am overweight and older (58) That did not cause me any complications.
Just make sure your surgeon and anethesiologist and nurses know your health history and your concerns. They will take good care of you.
Best wishes to you for calmness as you wait, also for a successful surgery, and an easy recovery. Take care!
