Anyone had PE's or DVT's then Hysterectomy?
Hello,
just wanted to give you my 2 cents worth. Because you have the hemotoligist working with you should be well covered and watched post surgery for dvt's and pe's.
I suspect they will d/c your plavix prior to surgery and switch you to lovenox prior to surgery, they may even put you on a heparin iv immediatly post surgery with your history.
I work on a cardiac floor, and now the trend is to contiue ASA( believe it or not!) and plavix is often d/c 3 days prior and coumadin 7 to 10 days prior. We do open heart surgery on patients with histories like yours all the time. Post operativly they just get different medications, and monitored a lil more closely for signs of dvt/pe's
Plavix works a bit differently than lovenox and ASA, they "think the blood" where as plavix works witht eh red blood cells and makes the outer edge of the red blood cells "slippery"
Personally, you are in better hands knowing your hx than not knowing. sounds as though you have a handle on things.
Not sure if this helps you at all
