Re: Going back to work too soon?
I own my own business and work from my house. I am 3 weeks today and can honestly say I have been working part-time since 2 weeks and more and more each day.
The trick for me (I have a 9" Vertical Incision) is not to sit too long... so I have to take frequent breaks. So while I might be thinking about work 8 hours, I only sat and actually worked 4 hours (per DR spending 15 minutes laying or standing for every 30 sitting).
I would suggest standing up every so often... sometimes I don't realize I overdid it until I do stand up and feel the pain, then I think "oh crap, shouldn't have sat so long" but it is too late!

Re: Going back to work too soon?
Follow doctors orders and have him write it out for your boss. Tomorrow is two weeks since my TAH. I've been feeling really well. I tried to don some walking outside today...mistake! Thus my stubbornness gets me in trouble. I was told not to do that until after my three week check up. I wish my body would catch up with my mindset! Anyhow, be careful!

Re: Going back to work too soon?
ok it hurts and I've crawled in bed with an ice pack after 2 days back at work. the doc tried to warn me that 2 weeks might be too soon since my laproscopic turned into a 4" adominal incision. I did walk a lot but that doesn't seem to compensate for meetiings and busyness. So, tomorrow is Friday, yah and a long weekend. I did notice that I got a bit "puffy" at the end of the day and all of the thank you's couldn't compensate for the soreness at the end of the day and letting my boys (husband and son) fend for themselves at the end of the day.... and the bottle of wine that seemed to ease the pain so it can be done but there is always some type of give and take at the end

Re: Going back to work too soon?
I haven't started working yet, but sat for awhile today while helping my stepdaughter download songs to iTunes. And sure enough, I started hurting quite a bit. I'm going back to work the week after next so hopefully sitting for long periods won't be so uncomfortable.

Re: Going back to work too soon?
I had my surgery the same week as you. I am a teacher so I am fortunate and do not have to hurry back to work. I agree with all the others who remind you to listen to your body. I know that I have had problems with insomnia for the past week and understand that this is a common problem. I also have some days where I feel like I can do anything and other days where I want to stay in bed. Are you able to take long enough breaks during the day to take a nap as needed? Are you hours at all flexible?
I love the suggestion of working in bed surrounded by pillows. I still have problems sitting straight up and much prefer to slouch.
Good luck to you!

Re: Going back to work too soon?
My husband's a teacher, which is why I waited to have the surgery until school was over. That's great that you'll have the summer to recover.
I do have some flexibility in my daily schedule although my boss is very put out by the whole situation. I'm off for 1 more week so hopefully I'll be able to sit more comfortably for longer periods when I start back to work.
I wish you well in your recovery.
