Mirena for Fibroids?

Have any of you tried a Mirena IUD for fibroids? It's apparently one of my options. It doesn't sound like it will reduce the fibroids or the pregnancy belly, but my doc thinks there is a good chance it will make my period (and thus a lot of my symptoms) go away.

I'm just not sure it's going to make enough of a difference to make it worth it. If anyone here has tried it, I'd love to hear about it.

My previous doctor recommended this. However, I am just so ready to go ahead and take care of this permanently that I got a second opinion from an older more experienced gyn who is only doing gyn (as opposed to ob/gyn). She assured me that if she showed my chart to 100 gyns, 99 would recommend hysterectomy. I have about 9 fibroids, uterus is 14 to 16 weeks in size.
