Trouble sleeping?

In an earlier post I wrote about my Ambien habit and how I intended to "kick" it. I decided to quit the Ambien cold turkey last Monday. The first night was awful. The 1 hour total or so of sleep that I got was very restless. I actually was able to get about 4 hours of restful sleep on each of the next 2 nights. On Friday night I had the best night of sleep since surgery. I slept from 1 a.m. until about 6:45 a.m. without Ambien! I did take 1 Benadryl at about 10 p.m. that night. I am so very happy that my body is no longer dependent on that little white pill for every wink of sleep! When used correctly, Ambien is wonderful. Sisters, please be warned by my experience that taking Ambien every single night for 6 or 7 weeks will cause a dependency that is very hard to break. If you're careful not to use it for more than 3 or 4 nights straight, you should be fine.

gvll - thanks for the post. Since your last post, I too have quit taking anything for sleep. It's me and Jesus from now on and I have been able to sleep too.

Trouble sleeping?

Hello...I too had alot of trouble sleeping.I would be so tired,go to bed and then be wide awake until 3:00 or 4:00am.At my two week check up I told my dr about not sleeping and was having major night sweats. He started me on hormone pills. It seemed like after a few days I started sleeping better, less night sweats and also less crying over every little thing.I'm almost in my 5th week post op and doing so much better.Hope you get some rest soon..

Trouble sleeping?

Great advice on this thread! thanks for the heads up Prescription drugs are definitely NOT the end all to be all! Don't get hooked! Before all of this I was on anti depressants. Went off them 4months before surgery and don't need to go back on them. That's the plus side of this operation for me,I now take half the drugs I was on before trying to cope with my perimenopausal symptoms! Sure don't miss them!
