Getting prepared

My surgery is a week and a half away and im trying to make sure i have everything ready before i go. Im doing the serious deep cleaning housework done that ive been putting off and making lists- a list of what to take to hospital when i go and a list of groceries and things i need to get from store beforehand. After surgery, what kind of diet will i be on? Are there certain kinds of foods that i will need to stay away from? And is there snything that i should take to hospital with me besides the basics- comfy loose clothes to wear home, personal hygiene items, etc?

Re: Getting prepared

Great question, looking forward to the answer as I go for my surgery monday first thing in the morning. I did some housework today but not feeling very motivated to do anything more...

Re: Getting prepared

I just had my TVH on the 24th and i too tried to prepare everything, good or you!
I made sure that i had some loose fitting comfy clothes for sure, even though i didnt wear then till day two.
I packed some personal things like toothbrush and anything else you would need in the bathroom like my own maxi pads...the hospital ones are huge and unconfortable, especially if you dont have heavy bleeding after...
made sure i had some tic tacs and things to suck on as the tube usually irritates your throat ( if they use one) for afterwards.
Brought my favorite relaxing music on my iphone, i was stuck in a room with 3 other ladies who were all noisey and sick and man oh man was it a releif to tune them out when i was exhausted!
Forgot my slippers, but they usually have little goofy ones you can wear.
I also packed some favorite foods like apple sauses and dried fruits, as we all know that hospital foods very from hospital to hospital....mine in fact was the worst food i ever had in a hospital so with out what i brought, i would not have eatten!
Just found what i brought was helpful...OH yeah, dont forget some scratch and wins for a little excitement! haha
Hope that helps

Re: Getting prepared

I didn't need anything at the hospital that they didn't give me. I had lose cloths to wear home. You may want to take a pillow for your ride home to protect your tummy. I stayed away from greasy foods. I ate a lot of applesauce & oatmeal cookies (for fiber). Make sure you drink lots of water. I had a pick up tool for at home because something always falls. I made up little bags of crackers so if I needed something I didn't need to get out of bed. Keep a list of what time you take your pain medications. That will help you stay on schedule. Best wishes to you!
