Spinal

During my pre-op, my doc said I would have a spinal during surgery as it aids in pain relief. What I forgot to ask was will I still be knocked out? I don't think I can go through with this being awake....the noises, smells, tugging.... Although I willl meet with my anesthisiologist Wed morning to review med plans, i was just wondering if those of you have had spinals were awake or asleep? Thanks!

Spinal

The spinal is to help with the pain from the surgery is what the anethisiologist told me. And yes you will be asleep! I did need extra pain meds once I came to, but from what was explained to me is the spinal med lasts about 18 hours. Could be wrong on the length of time the med lasts, since I was pretty much out of it for several hours after the surgery. They gave me the spinal *shot* about 1/2 hour before they took me to the OR. I was in the OR for about 5 mins before they put me out completely....

Don't forget
Liz
