Will I go through menopause......I just can't remember!!

Hi everyone....it's been quite awhile since I've been here (had my hysterectomy in 2003). But everyone was SO helpful to me before and after, so I decided to come here with this question, because I can't remember what my dr. said ( I will be seeing him next month) about menopause . I kept both ovaries, and can't remember if I will be going through a normal menopause at some point.....I am 46. A friend of mine who had a hysterctomy several years ago said the ovaries will "dry up" after about 5 years....does anyone know if this is true? Like I said, I will probably discuss this with my dr. next month, but just thought I would check with all you knowledgeable ladies here! This is such a wonderful place....

My Dr. told me that at my age (44), if I kept my ovaries I'd go through menopause when I would have without a hysterectomy. Since then, I've also read that a hysterectomy can make the ovaries stop working 5 yrs earlier (how they know that I'm not sure because women got through menopause at all different ages don't they?)

My doc told me that my ovaries looked good and that they should give me a good 10 years. I don't think that they dry up after 5 years just because you had a hyst. Every woman is different.

It´s only a question of statistics. You may go through it earlier than you´d have otherwise, or then you won´t... The only sure thing is that you´ll go through menopause ;-)
