worsening pms after hysterectomy

Hello ladies, wow been hit by a terrible emotional rollercoaster. I'm post-op wk. 4 and have been crying, angry, and yes even alittle crampy the past two days. I then realized this is the time I would normally have my period. Feels more like a bit of post partum depression. Anyone else experience this and will it improve as months pass?

Re: worsening pms after hysterectomy

Because the blood supply to the ovaries is interrupted with removal of the uterus, it can take them a bit to function properly following a hysterectomy. The end result can be some hormonal imbalance and wild PMS!

Also, if you used birth control pills prior to your surgery, it can take you a bit to adjust to just you and your own hormones.

Give yourself some time to see if things settle down. You are still healing and your body may not have sorted itself out yet.

But do not hesitate to contact your doctor about your symptoms. Mine offered low dose birth control pills or natural progesterone cream as options to help.

in there!
