both Ovaries or not?

I am scheduled for a LAVH BSO on the 15th of March. The dr said that she can leave my left ovary(if I want her too) since I am not having any issues with it. Part of me is saying take it too so I wont have to worry down the road for ovarian cancer. She is taking my cervix, was hoping to keep it. My paps have always come back normal, the reason she said she will take it is because she feels that I do have the adenomyosis and if when they do the pathology test on my Uterus and it does show that I have the adenomyosis than she said that it means it will be in the cervix too and I would have to go and have surgery again to remove it. So she said that its better to remove it now than to have to go thru all this over again. What I am concern is sexual desire/function with getting the cervix removed. I was just hoping to get the uterus and right ovary removed. I do go in two weeks for my second opinion.

Re: both Ovaries or not?

Im going in for a total hysterectomy with both ovaries being removed, I am also concerned about the sexual function but I know that keeping mine would be a surgery in another year only cause of all my problems. I havent had a normal pap in about 3 years and I see no reason to keep any of the organs that have so horribly been the biggest problem of my life.....27 and about to go through menopause....****.
I am so glad to have all of my sisters on here though without yall I would be so lost.

Re: both Ovaries or not?

In the uk unless there is cancer or a problem with ovaries they are normally left. I have both mine and the reason they leave them is you go into a more natural menopause rather than a instant one. Also age depending 45's and under they leave them 46 and older they get taken out.

Re: both Ovaries or not?

It is usually a last resort to have the ovaries removed here as well but all the problems I have had with mine and all of the primenopausal symptoms I have been going through over the past five years is never going to get any better. I already have pcos and with that is all the depression and other health problems so that is one of the main reasons they are taking mine.
It is scary to think that I am going through menopause before my own mom but I guess these things happen for a reason.
