Fibroids (or post-op lack of)!

Hi all Princesses!

I am still pre-op but would like to hear from some of you ladies about your post-op experiences after fibroid removal. Did you notice a huge difference or was it not as noticeable as you had hoped (I realize that this also depends on how big the fibroids are)? My uterus is 6 inches + and I'm wondering if that "bowling ball in my gut" feeling will go away after my TAH? (Please say yes ). Even if it takes months, as long as it's going to happen, I can wait!

It's odd - ever since I found out I'm going for the TAH, it's like my uterus and such have to get one last miserable month in - I know others have posted feeling that way too... Maybe it's just because we are feeling very aware of that middle region?

I woke up this morning and my belly felt so bloated that I swear someone had come and blown up a balloon in there thru the night...

And congrats to you all for being on the other side - I hope you all have speedy and uneventful recoveries!!

Fibroids (or post-op lack of)!

The primary reason I had my hysterectomy was because of fibroids. My belly was horribly bloated prior to surgery. After surgery I still had some swelly belly for many months - by about 4-5 months post-op my belly was not only back to "normal", it was finally smaller than pre-surgery.

I wish you the best wiht your surgery - be sure to come and visit us in the Post-op Form after your surgery to let us know how you are doing.

Fibroids (or post-op lack of)!

Hello! I had my Lavh on 3-29 due to a large fibroid the size of a 12-13 week pregnancy. The first time I sat up it felt like someone removed a half a bowling ball in there. You really don't realize the capacity of how much space these things take up. You will feel great after you are healed up. I have noticed though that things "fall into place" a couple weeks later. It's kinda weird. I feel pretty good by now except I have overdone it 2 days ago and paid for it dearly yesterday. Make sure you listen to what your doctor and nurses say. Good luck and take care.

Fibroids (or post-op lack of)!

I am 4 days post op and I think my belly is smaller even though I do have the swelly belly. I don't have swelly belly in the morning so I guess I develop it during the day. Maybe overdoing it.

When I woke up the eve of surgery and placed my hand down on my belly I couldn't believe how flat it felt! I peeked under the covers and remarked to my daughter about the difference. She said when they put me in my bed my husband noticed the difference right away. Although I am beginning to think my surgeon did a mini tuck. There's less skin between my pubic hair line and my belly button than before. I asked Dr why the brusing at the bottom of incision and he said he did a lot of tugging. Don't know if he would do that or not. I did tell him I would like one but he said he didn't do them.

Yes, I do notice a difference in the feeling of my belly as far as I don't have that awful heavy lump of a feeling there. I think you are right on when you say that toward the end of our wait we just are more aware of what we had put up with for a long time.

Good luck to you.

No more bowling ball!

Yes, I noticed a difference right away. It was getting difficult to even tie my shoes---it really felt like I was pregnant! Right after surgery (although I was swollen and fluffy--my belly was not what I'd call "flat" by any means...) I felt lighter and within 2 days it was so much easier to move! My uterus was 16+ cm, so I guess that was pretty big. I wish I'd lost the weight of a bowling ball, lol... I think I lost only a little over a pound of "uterus weight".

And about the final appearance... Yeah, happened to me too. I've always been extremely regular. (regularly miserable, lol!) But the last month my period was due on Thursday, but it came 5 days early on Sunday...surgery was Mon. This had never happened before in my life... Oh well, I went into surgery with it and came out without! It was the shortest period of my life!

Fibroids (or post-op lack of)!

I have noticed a huge difference including no more bleeding. I no longer have backaches, I don't have to go to the bathroom all of the time ( there was a huge fibroid pushing on my bladder) and I feel "empty" (it is a good feeling). I had well over 30 fibroids so mine were everywhere and my uterus was so large it had to be taken out in 3 seperate pieces. I have absolutely no regrets. I wish you the best of luck.

Lack of Fibroids!

Hi,

I had a TAH on May 4th for fibroids. I did notice a difference right away. I no longer had that enormous pressure on my bowels. It felt like I had to go all the time, even when I knew I didn't. There was a softball-sized fibroid there, pressing on my bowel. I also had frequent urination from pressure on the bladder.

My Mom has commented that my tummy looks flatter, although, in the last couple of days, I have been noticing the "swelly belly" later in the day, especially after eating.

Alll in all, I feel much better already and have since day one. BTW, I've noticed it does help when I wear "shaper" panties, that have some light support.

Good Luck!
Gail
