Aunt Flow's last stand
Are you kidding me? My period just started.
Since my surgery is six days away I can only take Tylenol for the cramps which really doesn't cut it. Oh well.
I'm 54 and have had fairly regular, heavy, painful periods until July when they suddenly stopped. After 3 1/2 months with no period, I thought I was finally done. So this is an unpleasant surprise!
Because I'm still menstruating at my age, my did an ultrasound and found some fibroids and also did an endometrial biopsy which fortunately was negative.
I'm so glad that I'm finally having my surgery next week. 42 years of painful periods is enough!!

Wishing you best of luck & a speedy recovery.
If heat helps the cramps, you might get relief from a Thermacare Heat Wrap. I've had pretty good luck with them.

Re: Aunt Flow's last stand
That's a good reminder about using heat. I do have a heating pad that I should use.

Re: Aunt Flow's last stand
I was five days away from my surgery when "Aunt Flow" showed up. I too was in alot of pain as with every period. By the next day I called the dr. who gave me an ok to take 2 doses of Ibruprophen for that day and that's it. It worked for me because usually by day 3 the cramps and pain ease up alittle. I did have my period yet going into surgery but I knew that would be the last time! Thank God! It still hasn't sunk in yet that I will never have a period again! Good luck and best wishes!

Gail, you are going to love the TOT sling! I had mine Dec '08along with right ovary/tube removed due to cysts. Now, I'm looking at what I should have done two years ago with total removal.
Praying for a successful surgery and speedy recovery for you next week!
(((hugs)))

Re: Aunt Flow's last stand
I'm 55 and after 3 years of no periods except for a little spotting here and there I suddenly started my period 4 weeks ago and it has not stopped. The doctor put me on meds and told me to take them 2 times a day until the bleeding stops and then once a day until surgery which is the 10th of Nov. At this rate I will run out of pills before that day gets here. I guess I'm getting paid back for those 3 years without a real period. So my uterus is going out with a bang!!!

Re: Aunt Flow's last stand
Thank you for posting that! I have read so many negative comments about the sling on the Pelvic floor forum I almost didn't agree to it. My urologist feels strongly that I will need it after my uterus is removed. He is very experienced with the TOT sling procedure which helps. But, positive first hand experiences like yours are the best!
And thanks also for the prayers. I'll be praying for you and all of our hystersisters with upcoming surgeries.

Re: Aunt Flow's last stand
Wow, that's rough! Fortunately my period that started today has turned out to be fairly light (so far).
Soon we'll both be done with Aunt Flow for good!

Re: Aunt Flow's last stand
I went 20 whole days without a period - the longest in about a year. This is hopefully the very last one I'll ever have, and hey, it's going out with a bang. If there was any doubt at all that this is the right decision for me, there isn't now!!
