vaginal odor - embarrassing question....

I had a total hysterectomy 4 yrs ago,and i have been having problems ever since..Not going to bore you with all of them, but just recently i have been experiencing an unpleasant odor, especially after intercourse..I have been in to see the Dr twice about this, and the first visit he perscribed an antibotic for 7 days, which i thought cleared it up..Well a few weeks after i noticed the same dreaded odor, and returned to his office to get a perscription to a cream (one application) which i incerted a week ago.I refrained from sex,a whole week, and when i finally thought everything would be fine, not only did the cream not dissipate but the unpleasantness still exists....
I will definitely be calling the drs office again tomorrow morning, but i wondering if anyone has had this problem?

Hi There!

I'm sorry to hear about this distessing problem. What is the name of the condition or infection that your doctor diagnosed you as having? This information might help some members with a similar history to reply to your question.

Did your doctor talk to you about having your partner treated also? With some of these types of infections both partners need to be treated or they keep reinfecting each other. Also with some of them men don't have any symptoms that they notice.

You may want to ask your doctor about that possibility. I hope you feel better soon and get this over with quickly.

Singer564 had a very good reply! In this case, I think both partners need to be treated! That's a very good point, if you're having 'troubles' to get rid of your 'smelly' discomfort!
Your dr. should have suggested it!

The other thing I want to mention but I don't know how to put it very delicately is that make sure you sterilize any toys or vibrators that you may use. You can buy specific cleaner, but usually a good cleaning with warm soapy water and then a rinse in hydrogen peroxide and then air dry will do the trick.

Sorry for the but this can be a really important thing to do to stop reinfection.

Ask your doctor to do a vaginal swab for a proper diagnosis, your infection may not be bacterial, one possiblility is trichomonal vaginitis, if this is the case, your partner must also be tested. I am not a medical professional & this is my own opinion.
