I quit my job today..
I can't believe I did it! I work in am Elementary Shool kitchen. I had to take the day out of work yesterday to take care of some personal business. When I went in today the boss asks me into the office and says that Company Policy is that if you are going out for a medical leave( I am starting next Friday for 6 weeks) for any length of time then he cannot promise that my job will be availble when I returned to work. There will be a job just not the one that I have been doing for the last 6 years.
Four years ago I had to take medical leave to deal with Breast Cancer, chemo and radiation, when I returned to work my job was still there. So I do not know why this time is any different, at least this time I know when I will be returning last time I did not.
I told him that if my job was not there when I go back then I would not be going back. Then I told him that next Thursday would be my last day. Then the more and more I thought about it I said the **** with him and I called his machine and left a message stating that today was my last day.
I had never heard of this policy before. In the beginning of the school year I told him that I wa planning on a hyster. and that created any problems with my job then to let me now ther so I could resign, like that I had to take time out of work then I would resign right there on the spot. He said no ,we will take care of it when it happens. So I thought everything was all set! Guess not!!
This has been the week from ****, Last Thursday pre-op at the hosp ( with blood work) Last Friday the dreaded colonoscopy(with 4 vein sticks to get iv going), Monday am blood work (no problem with veins), Monday afternoon pre-op with gyn surgeon, Tues. regular check up with primary doctor, Wed. pm MRI/MRA with contrast (3 more vein sticks and burning like never before), this morning regular check up with Breast Surgeon( no bedside manner at all) Oh yeah did I happen to mention that my house was up for forclosure yesterday(it is all set now) and I am PMSing like there is no tomorrow. I thought with all of the stress that Aunt Flo would decide I have had enough and skip me this one last time but noooooooo , Not gonna happen!
So here I sit jobless, bruised(from 7 different vein sticks) wondering if I mets to the brain from Breast Cancer( won't get MRI results till next week sometime) But Hey at least I still have my house!!!And I get to go on vacation to the Castle one week from today. LOL
Well at least without having to work next week I can take the time to get my house cleaned and in order for my DH and DD to mess up while I am in the Castle becoming a Halloween Princess.
I feel much better now having gotten all of that out or wait a minute maybe its just the 2 lorazapams finally kicking in.
It just can't possibly get any worse than this. LOL,
Ellen
ps- when i was leaving work today nobody even said bye to me....:cry:

I quit my job today..
I also work in the school kitchen (in Missouri) However due the the Family Medical Leave Act, I am guaranteed to be able to miss 12 weeks of workfor health or family reasons and still have my job waiting for me when I get back. I think this is a nationwide law. If your job employees more than 50 people, they have to abide by this. I don't know how big your schools are, but for example I am employeed by our town's Public Schools. This includes ALL the employees, from teachers to janitors, to lunch ladies. I would look into this, because they could be sued if they do not obey this law!

I quit my job today..
The FMLA is certainly worth checking into. It may have something to do with whether or not you are considered a "key employee". If not, you should definitely be able to return to your same job, but if you are a "key employee", the employer has the right to replace you without being obligated to create some other position. Maybe, you have be promoted in the last 4 years and you are now a "key employee".
Best Wishes for surgery and short/long term recovery.

I quit my job today..
Ellen;
Hang in there girl!! Sometimes we have to get through the bad to get to the good. When I was going through my divorce, my home was foreclosed on, car reposessed, I also lost my job due to my ex-husband stalking and harrasing me. If this had not happened, I would not have gone back to college and obtained an associates degree in medical assisting, nor would I be receiving my bachelors degree this spring. I would not be closer to my family and most certainly have not acheive the success I ahve currently in my life. while things are bleak now, and you might question why, just know that you have many people praying for you, and are starting on a new adventure, and will most certainly find a job that will make you happier .
