2 weeks post-op and horrible cramping!

Hi ladies!
I had my surgery 2 weeks ago and the last few days I've had horrible period like cramps, some nerve-like pain in my cervix area-feels like a UTI but doesn't stop, terrible gas (regardless of what I eat), and I always feel like I need to have a BM, but nadda. I know UTI is one of the most common infections after hospitalization. And I'm a nurse so I know the standard symptoms after surgery, but this feels like the worst period ever-sans bleeding. What gives?
Any one else have these issues?
I'm about to lose my mind, and I feel like recovery isn't coming!
Argh!!

Re: 2 weeks post-op and horrible cramping!

Hi there!

Oooooh yes! I've been there. I had my hyst because I had really bad cramps. I couldn't believe that I still had cramps the normal time when I would have my period after surgery. I was so nervous and scared. I couldn't believe it! Slowly with every month that passed, the cramps started getting less and less. I still get a little cramping...very minor. I might take 2 ibuprofens and the pain is totally gone. Before the surgery I was taking 5 ibuprofens and was still in a ton of pain.

I couldn't quite tell, but are you bleeding too? If you are bleeding red and a lot, that means you are doing to much and/or maybe another issue. You would want to call your doc. They will probably just say to take it easy, but I would call just in case.

For gas, I used Gax-X. It worked wonders!

I had nerve pain on my left side where they made the incision. It took months for that to go away. I'm not sure if this is what you might be feeling. You can ask your doc or a nurse at his office.

This will get better. You just need time to heal. I know it's hard now, but you will find relief. You are in my prayers!

Hugs,
Suzy

Re: 2 weeks post-op and horrible cramping!

Thanks Suzy!
My doc thinks the cramping is just gas pain, but it feels like a period to me. Since I don't have any ovaries, (and using my deductive reasoning as a nurse) I'm guessing it has to do with the excess endometriosis that I have. And I think you're spot on with the nerves too. Everything is waking up!
Good luck to you and take care!

Re: 2 weeks post-op and horrible cramping!

Hey Marcy!

Good guess. It might be. I do remember reading a post of a woman having monthly cramps and had both ovaries removed, so you are not alone. I know you had your surgery done a short while ago, but my guess is that you will see a decrease in the cramping each month as I did.

Wow! The body is just so complex! Take care and good luck to you too!
