just curious....bowel prep

I had my pre-op on Thursday. Fortunately I only have to dring 1.5 oz of the Fleets phospho-soda. I have read a lot about mixing it with a soft drink or ginger ale to help it go down better. What about about a hot liquid? If it is so salty it seems to me it might be tolerable in a soup or broth? I am just curious. Right now mine is chilling in the fridge to be good and cold when I take it a noon tomorrow. Thanks, Mary Jo

1.5 ounces? That's a very small amount. I'd probably just 'chug' it. I didn't have to go through any prep, fortunately.

What does it say on the label? Sometimes you can't mix stuff like that with hot liquids because it takes away the carbonation.

I wouldn't put it in hot drinks; I think cold takes the taste away. If you haven't already bought it, there is a Ginger-Lemon flavor that you can't taste when you mix it w/Sprite. It makes the Sprite a little flat, but if you drink it quickly, the carbonation will stay. (The Phospha Soda isn't carbonated.) I found this mixture to be fine; not salty at all.

Remember to stay close to the bathroom. You'll only get a few seconds warning. And use moist wipes (Cottonelle or Northern) instead of toilet paper. Prep H used each time from the beginning helps, too.

Good luck.

Did you get the plain one that mixes with water?

Once I had to take one that was already in a bottle. It came in red color and cheery flavored. BOY was that better than the others!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think it was called Fleet though.
They only gave me an enima to take.

I think drinking something does way better though.

I have to drink the phospho soda too....ginger lemon flavor.

According to my wonderful pre-op nurse, the easiest way to take this stuff is to plug your nose and chug it back, and then immediately drink a big glass of water.

I have to drink TWO bottles....one at 10am, and one at 3pm. Boy are my bowels going to be CLEAN!!! I'm setting up my bathroom first thing in the morning with a candle, some flowers, and a puzzle book and a novel to read. I have a feeling I'm going to spend most of the day in there!

And i agree with (((Garden))) use wipes instead of toilet paper. I bought a big pack of baby wipes, although now I wish I'd bought the flushable ones.

I'll be keeping you all in my thoughts (I'll have lots of time for thoughts in my comfy bathroom tomorrow)

Hey, Winnipeg--how are you? I'm in Duluth. I haven't made it over to Winnipeg yet, but I hope to.

Actually, I am trying to get genetic testing (for breast cancer genes) done in Canada because it is too expensive in the States. Every province is different in what it will allow. I would be a paying customer, of course, so I hope I can get it done. My friend went to Winnipeg to get LASIK surgery done on her eyes.
