Acupuncture treatment for fibroids?

Hi. I'm waiting to be scheduled for a TAH/BSO for numerous large fibroids. After doing a lot of research, especially on this site, I think that surgery is probably going to be the best option for me. However, I have recently been reading that acupuncture may be an alternative way to treat/shrink fibroids and wondered if anyone here has tried this option and, if so, how successful (or not!) was it? Would love to hear of any experiences. Thanks.

Acupuncture treatment for fibroids?

I've never heard of treating fibroids with acupuncture. While you are researching it, see if they've done any large, long-term, double-blind studies of its effectiveness, or if you are just reading individual testimonies. I would be very skeptical of the latter.

I just had my TVH for multiple small fibroids and adeno, and I'm glad I did it. I can already tell that after my recovery, I will be a new woman.

However, - a hyst IS major surgery not without risks, and if you are not comfortable with it, you should consider all your options, plus it never hurts to get a second opinion. Other options are: UFE/UAE, myomectomy, ablation (but usually lots of big fibroids rules that out), the Mirena IUD, and BCP, but only your doctor could say which one you are a good candidate for.

Also, I notice you are getting your ovaries removed as well. Is there a reason for that? I gave permission to remove one or both if they looked unhealthy, but they looked fine so I was able to keep them.

good luck with your decision

Acupuncture treatment for fibroids?

Hi Voo. Thanks for your post. I just happened to read an advertisement by an acupuncture practitioner offering treatment for various conditions and uterine fibroids was mentioned as one of them. I then googled the subject to find out a bit more about it as an option. Most opinions I came across are given by individuals (of which I too am skeptical) so was curious to see if anyone here had experienced this as a treatment.

I've had fibroids for 11 years now and they have only recently become symptomatic due to their size and number -I have a 14 week uterus. I feel comfortable with having the surgery but have occasional days when I feel a bit scared and then look for options! I'm having my ovaries removed as my mum died of ovarian cancer aged 49 (I'm 44) and I don't want to take any chances where this terrible disease is concerned.

I'm glad everything went well with your surgery and I wish you all the best with your recovery.

Acupuncture treatment for fibroids?

Hi Carolyn
I have tried acupuncture for fibroids and it didn't work for me. However it did give me some relief for a while but didn't fix anything. I love my acupuncturist and she has helped me with other problems and perhaps it could help others with their fibroids. Have also tried other natural remedies and it seems that hyst is the only way to go for me. Good luck which ever way you go.

Acupuncture treatment for fibroids?

Hi Julie - thanks for telling me about your experience. I guess that the only surefire way to get rid of fibroids once and for all is via the surgery route.

I note that your hyst is due next week and I want to wish you the very best for your surgery and a speedy recovery.
