Spotting 30 years after hysterectomy

Has anyone had this happem to them? I had a vaginal hyterectomy when I was 27 due to complications after my 3rd pregnancy. Then I had no more periods, no spotting ,no discharge of any kind. Now here I am in my 50's and was told I was past menopause. However about a year ago I suddenly I began getting what was first a yellowish discharge then it stopped, then brown for a few days then stopped for more than a month ,then red small bit of bledding that stopped and 3 months past and it came back with brownish spotting again. I also almost always get a migraine the day before this happens. I have seen my GYN who has done tests including the C1-25 and tested for a yeast infection as well as an interultrasound and pelvic exam, My GYN has no idea what is causinhg this. I still have my ovaries but test show them shrunk to the point of almost not being seen and no one seems to know or ever heard of this happening. So I come to you all here hoping someone other than myself has had this or knows what may be causing this. It happens almost every month and though it is a small amount and lasts only a day or two at the most I'd really like to know how or what could cause this. Anyone heard of this? I have been having this for almost a year now with two trips to my GYN. She repeated the tests and still all came back negative. Still, this is worrisome to me.

Spotting 30 years after hysterectomy

Your question got me curious, so I tried to see what I could find out online. First of all, you certainly aren't the only one with this issue!

It's interesting that the problem is cyclic and associated with a migraine. That makes it sound like something hormonal. On the other hand, your discharge symptoms resemble those I had before I was diagnosed with a cancerous polyp. I'm wondering if it's possible to have a vaginal polyp after hysterectomy? Also, do you still have your cervix? Do you still have your fallopian tubes? Can you verify that everything is AOK with them?

here is something EXTREMELY rare so I wouldn't worry about it: http://www.greenjournal.org/cgi/cont...tract/94/5/834

Hope you get some answers soon, and that they indicate your problem is just one of those mysteries of "getting old"!

Spotting 30 years after hysterectomy

I am 58 and they discovered when they did my hysterectomy that my left ovary was atrophied (all dried up). (I went through menopause at age 50.)So there is someone else out here like you with a shrunken ovary. It did not cause me any pain or problems, though. The spotting I experienced as my only symptom was due to cancerous polyps attached to the endometrium.

Did your doctor do a vault/pap smear at your last visit (when he/she did the pelvic exam)? I hope so. If not, ask for one.

I've read that any bleeding post-menopause should be looked at in a timely manner.
