Anyone's Blood Pressure spike before their hyst?

I usually am 100/70 or 110/80 area. They joke I "am alive".

However, the day of surgery I hit 135/80. Informed the nurse that was not typical and she was not surprised.
If you're usually lower, my guess is it probably is the nerves! If the office was concerned, they would have quizzed you.

I run low too, my average is 118/68...if I am sick it will hit 125/75...so I make sure I tell them that I run low so they can adjust my "normal" on the charts. But stress can and does affect your BP.

Mine is normally pretty low too. It was up a bit the day of surgery. My dr called it "white coat syndrome"

He said that it happens to many when they're stressed or nervous.

Mine was up... way up

I usually run around 128/70 and my bp was up to 173/74 or so just before I went in to surgery. After surgery it came down to 136/68, still high for me, but better. Now I think it is probably back to normal since I am home.

But if I get close to a doctor's office, or a hospital, my bp skyrockets. It is "white coat hypertension" in my case. Big time. ;-)

I suffer from "white coat syndrome". I was diagnosed with hypertension 2 years ago and have had it under control with medication and herbal remedies ever since. When I went in for my pre-op the anesthesiologist started laughing when he took my blood pressure. It was so high he refused to tell me. He said my heart was racing. He said it was quite normal, that stress does strange things to people, and to continue with my meds and I would be okay. Since my surgery I have been normal, well my blood pressure anyways, the rest of me still has a long way to go LOL

Anyone's Blood Pressure spike before their hyst?

My BP has been "slightly high" the last several times it's been checked (132/90) and I was starting to worry about pre-hypertension- one of the nurses asked if I took a lot of ibuprofen for pain, and said that there have been studies done that link high BP with prolonged advil use. She suggested I switch to tylenol- of course, I have to anyway now that I am one-week pre-op

Mine did!

I went for my pre-op yesterday, and now I'm on blood pressure medication for the week to see if it can be brought down before the surgery. So I have one MORE Dr.'s appointment before the big day.

I'm glad to hear that it's not just me and it will probably resolve itself with time.

It's interesting that you ask this. . . I normally run low, about 100/65, and today for my pre-op I was 128/76 which is quite high for me. Of course, I am a basketcase so that might explain it!

I think I've been doing too much reading! Some of it has been so encouraging, but some of it has me terrified! I've been having gastro issues along with my adeno, and on another thread lots of ladies were weeks post-op and still having bowel cramping and that has me terrified! I thought I would get rid of those symptoms with my surgery.

joriebelle,

You will have some bowell pain because they move the intestines around while in surgery- but it does go away, and many of us just have to get "movin'" and then we are fine.

Any bowell pain issues are not going to stick around forever!
