Securing bladder important?

Hi this is my first time! So here goes....

Can anyone help me with their experiences and knowledge about securing the bladder in a hysterctomy.

a nurse friend told me that this is very important and I conclude logically that it is ...however my gyno says that she does not do this and that recent reports and research say this is not needed to avoid incontinence after op.

I am now considering getting another gyno opinion before I get the "job" done.

Thanks

Securing bladder important?

Dear Smif,

If you are experiencing any stress incontinence (leaking during sneezes, etc), now would be the time to address it with your doc. As for *preventive surgery*, most docs won't tinker around with the bladder if there's no current problems going on.

Hysterectomy is major surgery, and you owe it to yourself to get a 2nd and even a 3rd medical opinion. My doc #2 had much more cutting & pasting in mind for me than doc #3 (the eventual surgeon). Get smart about your symptoms & your options, and make the best choice for YOU.

Sending cyberhugs
