Re: Getting things in order (Food Questions)

I Had LSH 2/1/11 Before going in I made alot of home made sauce so my DH would only have to boil pasta & add it,when I got home wens. I was craving shake & bake pork chops .Well DH took them out of the freezer to thaw & made them for me on Thurs. He made them better than me .I've been eating my normal diet since coming home . We had breakfast for supper the first night .
hope this helps I'm told LSH is a little easier

Re: Getting things in order (Food Questions)

I ate a LOT of soup right after surgery. It was all I could stomach. I went through a ton of Progresso soup. I still like soup as it is mild and doesn't fill me up so much that I am miserably full. Digestive track is still slow 3 weeks out. I ate a lot of apple sauce, jello, and other soft things too. I was told to eat what looked appetizing and avoid everything else. So that's what I did.

I stocked my freezer with home made casseroles and other pre-made things that were bought and easy to put together.

Getting things in order (Food Questions)

I've been drinking cranberry juice every day. UTIs are quite common after hysterectomies and I'm prone to them. Cranberry juice has been proven to help prevent UTIs. I bought the standard US brand in "light" because I wanted less sugar and calories. I found that the artificial sweetener made the juice a bit too sweet. So, I also have been buying the 100% cranberry juice with no sweeteners. I mix 2/3 of the "light" juice with 1/3 of the 100% juice and pour it over ice. It's nice and tart and not too calorie-laden. I've been drinking 12 - 24 oz. of this mixture along with lots of water every day.

As far as food, I made 4 gallons of good soup before my surgery, chicken-vegetable and carrot-potato. These soups were my dinner almost every night the first few weeks. I put dumplings on the chicken soup and made biscuits to go with the carrot soup. The other thing I've been craving and making a lot of is low-fat pizza. My bread machine whips out a nice dough in an hour. I heat up my pizza stone, throw a little cheese and lots of vegetables on the crust, and have a yummy pizza without a lot of fuss.

My breakfasts have been mostly cereal. I either make oatmeal or have a tasty high fiber raisin bran cereal. I eat a lot of non-fat Greek yogurt, salads, raw vegetables and fruit (mostly apples and grapes this time of year) during the day.

I also made a lot of pasta sauce and chili and froze it. We didn't dip into this before, but now, at a month after surgery, it's fabulous to have some tasty dinners just waiting in the freezer!
