Does this consume your every thought?

My surgery is October 3 and I swear it consumes my every thought! It is on my mind constantly. I have had such anxiety that my dr. gave me some medication. Any tips on how you "kept it together" before the big day? I am not squeamish about having the surgery or my decision to have it, it is just the anticipation.

(((((frani37))))) just know that many of us felt like you! I'm glad that you found us here. The waiting is the LONGEST part. The anticipation drives ya nuts. Just keep reading and posting here. If you take a peek in Post-Op you will see that the gals often say that the waiting is worse than the actual trip to the castle. Have you checked out the Pull-Down menus for Ladies in Waiting and Punctured Princesses? Those are helpful. Just stick around on this site. You will learn so much. As you learn you will begin to feel at ease somewhat. Just know that your anxiousness if very normal for a gal who is waiting waiting waiting.

s to you,

Does this consume your every thought?

Hi!
Just had to add that I totally agree with Patty...stick around here because what you are thinking about is on our minds, too. I found out pretty early in my time that my family didn't WANT to think or talk about my upcoming surgery all the time...strange, huh?? So when I found this site, I was very glad ... and so were they!!

Welcome aboard!

Does this consume your every thought?

Hi Frani I remember just how consumed I was with my upcoming surgery: it was the only thing I could think about. Even when I was thinking of something else, I was thinking of the surgery. It's normal: this is major surgery and, for most of us, it's the first time we ever have to deal with something of that natured.

The only way I found to cope with it was by coming here often. In fact, I sometimes felt like I was living in the Land of Hyster. It felt so good to find so many sisters who had gone or were going through the same thing.

Whenever it seems like it's getting to be too much, just drop in. Even just reading on the site helps. And posting your questions sure do help.

Hang in there: before you know it you'll be on the countdown. And, until then, we'll be right here with you.

Does this consume your every thought?

Frani...yup, they're right! I couldn't believe how much I obsessed about the surgery...and the details...but it is SO true that the waiting is the worst of it all! I remember thinking (after getting to my hospital room after surgery)--WOW! I can't believe how much worrying I did! I made it! And, the recovery is a breeze compared to the anticipation--which is mixed with both dread and enthusiasm! Glad for no more periods, that's for sure!

Wishing you all the best! Sue

I agree. The waiting is the worst but thank goodness you found hystersisters.

I was happy when I found this website and all the lovely people here.

Before my surgery, I kept telling myself, it will be over before I know it. It helped.

God bless you and keep in touch with hyster sisters.

Does this consume your every thought?

Hi, Frani37:

My date is also 3 Oct and today I realized that is "only" one month away! In some ways a long way off and in some ways just right around the corner! I feel exactly like you do and I agree with the other post from LindaJean who said she was glad to have found this site because her family really didn't want to hear but so much about the anticipation and fears. There is only so much they can try and understand. I do think it is (and rightfully so) an obsession. I can't wait until it is over so I can share my thoughts that "the waiting was the worst part"!

We October girls need to keep in touch and keep asking questions and sharing our thoughts!

Does this consume your every thought?

I'm relieved that I am not the only one obsessing about the surgery and all. However, I feel better (sort of) knwoing that this site and some of the advice I've read and recieved have helped me plan what to do so my recovery period is as stress free as possible.

As for the surgery itself, it's almost 2 months away and whenever I get nervous I just remind myself to enjoy my time running around now because after the surgery I won't be able to run around for abit. Yesterday I was in a funk and didn't want to go anywhere or do anything, but finally hopped into the shower and took the kids apple picking and then out for chinese food and ice cream at DQ-for those 2-3 hours I wasn't thinking too much about anything but what I was going to do with 20lbs of Paula Red apples!

Hang in and try to do something for yourself that you might not be able to for awhile.

I agree- I think about this constantly!!

Yep- I seem to think @my surgery all the time- really, I just look forward to it so much I can't wait. I figure, no matter how lousy I may feel for several weeks, it will be time limited- these cramps I have now could go on for another 15 yrs. or so And my family is pretty well fed up with hearing about my surgery- so I'm so thankful for Hystersisters- where everone else is just as obsessed as I am

Does this consume your every thought?

Hi Frani!

YES it does consume every thought!!

My surgery is the day before yours, (Oct. 2nd) I was up late thinking/worrying about it, was up twice through the night and even had two dreams in between!! To say I'm obsessed about this is an understatement!!

Four weeks today and it will be over, then the fun begins!!

Best Wishes,
Dianne
