Seeping/not healing incisions, post-op 6 weeks

I had my total hysterectomy 6 weeks ago. I have the two small incisions from the laproscopy and the one at my navel looks great and healed quickly. The one at my bikini line is not healing. It still seeps and sometimes bleeds. There is not warmth or puffiness so I don't feel it is infected, just not healing. I spoke to the nurse and she felt I may be irritating it with my clothes. I was to wear a bandaid....well, that isn't helping. The one at my navel will seep a watery fluid sometimes too. Is anyone else going through this?

TeeSheetz,

I don't remember having any sort of drainage. I would think that his far post op you may want to give the doctors office a call. Let us know what they so or if you are already doing better.

Re: Seeping/not healing incisions, post-op 6 weeks

I had a small amount of drainage from one of my laparoscopic incisions (LAVH BSO on Jan. 12) and called my doctor yesterday. She prescribed an antibiotic. You don't want to mess around with an infection, in my case I wanted to clear it up before it went all the way through the incision.

Re: Seeping/not healing incisions, post-op 6 weeks

The incision in my navel seeped a clear, yellowish fluid for weeks and weeks -- took over 3 months before the last pinhole of incision closed and it finally stopped (and during that period, I dressed it and cleaned it on a daily basis with saline solution, as well as having had a precautionary round of antibiotics). I think a suture was working its way out. THEN, nearly 11 months later, it started oozing again -- it had re-opened again (a tiny pinhole). Despite lack of pain, heat or redness, my doctor cultured it -- it turned out to have an infection, so yet another round of antibiotics. She also treated it with silver nitrate, which finally (fingers crossed) closed it for good.

You are not alone. Definitely work with your doctor, because it could well be infected. And, they can probably assure you that the incision is closed from the inside and that any opening is superficial.

Re: Seeping/not healing incisions, post-op 6 weeks

I still have 2 incisions that are trying to heal and I will be 6 weeks on Thursday. I was allergic to the adhesives used and the derma bond. I blistered and then it set me back on healing. My doc said that they look fine and she is hoping when I go in on the 31st they will be closed. I really hope so. I have been cleaning them daily and using antibiotic cream on them but can not keep them covered besides wearing a clean under shirt.
