Not Urinating after pelvic lift + other procedures

A little about me, since this is my first post, though I've read this site for months now! I'm 29, and have had 3 pregnancies close together, which is what lead to a complete cervical and uterine prolapse, plus my pelvic floor having absolutely no tone at all. I recieved a TVH, with both posterior and anterior vaginal repair, pelvic floor reconstruction, and a tummy tuck.I figured, what the hey, I'm going to be in pain anyway, why not just get it all done at once! The surgery went very well, and everything is healing nicely, except for one tiny thing. I still am completely unable to urinate on my own. At first I thought this was normal, and that this may take time to happen, so I was not worried. I have a suprapubic cath, and was just voiding when I felt the urge. But then my OB called on wed, and asked if I wanted to come in and get my cath removed. When I told him I hadn't been able to void on my own, he was very concerned, and said that was highly unusual, since I did not have a bladder lift or sling. This man is a urogynocologist, one of the best in the nation, so I take what he says very seriously. He prescribed valium for me, to help my muscles relax, and to help me calm down enough to pee. The first day I got a trickle, the second day I got up to 40% voided at one time. But now, the last two days, I can get NOTHING out. I can feel the pee even begin to come down the uretha, but then nothing happens. Even when I did get stuff out on those two days, I had to push so hard I was afraid I was going to hurt myself. I've searched online everywhere, and am unable to find ANYONE who has had this problem. Lots of people w/ slings take weeks to urinate, but no one who hasn't had one has had more than a few days. Tomorrow his office is open and I'm calling, but for now I just need some reassurance. I'm crying all the time, and that stupid valium doesn't do anything for me, not even calm me down. I am really hoping for something to happen soon! I've started taking cranberry supplements in case of an infection, even though I'm on antibiotics, and bromelian (a pinapple extract to reduce swelling). Any ideas, support, or stories would be GREATLY apprciated!

Re: Not Urinating after pelvic lift + other procedures

Hi Lysistrata31,
I am sorry to hear you are having the problems voiding. May I ask why you had a supra pubic cath instead of a regular cath? I also had a tummy tuck when I had my hysterectomy yrs ago and had no problems, but did not have near the amt of surgery you had. You had a lot of stuff done at one time and your body has been put through quite a bit of trama. It is working very hard to heal in several places. And if I read it correctly it was just Dec 17th. Try to give yourself some time to heal, and try to get your mind off it. I know that is easier said than done. But you are only 10 days out and that is not much healing time. My surgery was on the 18th and I am dealing with complications but have learned after lots of surgeries it all works out OK with time.
Wishing you the very best! Take care,
Joy
